No Rest For Our Hunters

I didn’t make my end of the season post last week, but it’s wrapped up for another year. It was a dreary, rainy one so they didn’t have a packed blind, but Matt and Lillian got in their last hunts. They are always disappointed, but ready for some rest too. Historically the first weekend of February is a do nothing weekend, but our gymnastics schedule had other ideas.

We got to Baton Rouge on Friday and the whole family came over to Dad’s for dinner before going to the LSU gymnastics meet. It didn’t start until 8:00 so that was a late night for us!

We had NO IDEA what kind of following they have and what kind of production it was. The P-Mac was full and there were fireworks, a band, cheerleaders… the crowd had a 1st down type cheer every time they stuck a landing. I loved watching Kathleen almost as much as I liked the meet. And we got to see a Perfect 10 floor routine.

We got up Saturday morning and went to Nana’s to visit. Lizard took the girls to her friends farm to see baby goats and puppies

while me, Matt, Jimmy, Theresa, Janice and Lillian (she had a headache and didn’t want to go to the farm) went to lunch.

That night was a 20th, 16th and 13th birthday for Daniel, Anna, and Lilli. We had fajitas and of course cake and presents.

They had one cake and almost fought over blowing out the candles. They aren’t grown yet! Lol 🤣

And this morning was the Excel Games gymnastics meet in Prairieville. Even though it was at 8AM, Kathleen had quite the fan club cheering her on! 11 family members showed up (Jen. Ryan and Anna were at church because she was being honored as the youngest member to serve on church council and for her work at the pantry). My friend made us all shirts with her name and she had great support! I couldn’t believe Daniel made it on his own but he’s always been so sweet to his cousins. She said it made her nervous to have so many eyes on her, but she did great! She placed in every event and won 2nd All Around

Her total score was super impressive and we are so glad they all got to come. Especially Nana because it’s not easy on her and it may be the only one she ever sees live. Janice even drove in from Austin for it. I hadn’t seen her in over a year because Kathleen had Covid for Roy’s funeral and Lilli had the flu the last time she went to Baton Rouge. It was a great family weekend and everyone thanked Katie for opening them up to this whole new world they didn’t even know existed. We may be creating some gymnastics fans. 😊
