Isla Mujeres
Matt and I just got back from a wonderful 5 nights in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. He's been talking about us going there together since he went with Capn and Josh 6 years ago and I can see why he loves it so much. I told him I can see this being "our place" and going back every year. From the time we got on the ferry
It was nothing but blue water and skies and beautiful sunny weather. The highs were in the mid 80s with the low around 70 and it was perfect. We got there Saturday afternoon and spent that day hanging around the beach and bar because we were too exhausted to do much else.
But then Sunday morning we got up and walked around the North end of the island for an hour while we waited on the place to rent a golf cart to be open. Not much is open on Sundays and we had the place almost to ourselves. After we got the golf cart
We drove to the East side of the island and hiked Punta Sur. This was one of my most favorite things we did. The views were so spectacular that we even got up before daylight on Monday to go watch the sunrise. We had seen a sign that said this was the most Eastern part of Mexico and the first place the sun touches in the whole country.
For such a small island, there was a surprising amount of things to do. We went one morning to drive around and explore some more and saw a turtle farm. They mate, hatch, raise and release sea turtles from here for conservation.
There's even a dolphin discovery park and an adventure park with zip lines and paddle boards. We didn't do any of that but maybe if we ever take the girls. After our sunrise view of Punta Sur, we got to catch all of the kids going off to school on Monday morning. That was fun to see and I sent Lilli a picture of "Mexican car line" with all of the kids being dropped off on the back of their parents scooters.
But the best part of any beach vacation is this:
Sitting in your chair and people watching while enjoying the sun and views. I liked checking out the island those couple of mornings, but I LOVED sitting right here and reading 2 1/2 books over 5 days.
And at night, the food! We had some delicious seafood and one time it was enough to bring back to the room for lobster tacos for lunch the next day.
And speaking of the room, our hotel was basic but perfect. The room had a king bed with a good bathroom and mini fridge. That's all we need. And the grounds were really pretty too.
We missed our girls but honestly could have stayed a few more nights. We didn't feel to bad for them. They were at Camp Yaya and she and Capn had them entertained and spoiled. (Thank you!)
They went to the cabin with Chad, Rachel, Josey and Austin for the weekend before going to Vivian. Where there they had (according to Lilli) and "art day," a "cooking day," a "town day," and a "movie day." They were perfectly happy but we all were also very happy when we got to Vivian to pick them up last night and all got our arms around each other. They had fun sitting with their Daddy this morning as he went through all of the pictures and souvenirs with them. A fun trip but we are glad to be home!
