Opening Weekend
Yesterday was opening weekend of duck season in Arkansas and (just like everything else this year) it looked a lot different. It’s typically a guys weekend and several friends would be in town but not this year. Matt has been wanting to take the girls deer hunting so we made plans to meet him in Plain Dealing after he hunted on Saturday and Sunday for him to take them each one on one.Lilli went first and she got a special treat because Austin was there with Chad too. We didn’t realize he was going until he called from the car Friday evening so that got her even more excited about her weekend with Dad. Since there wasn’t anyone in town, there was even room in the duck blind for her to go. It was her first hunt and she loved it! She said there’s more action than a deer stand (even though she loves that too) and she didn’t have to be as quiet. 😉
While they were playing up there, Katie and I had a good Mom and Me day. We watched the LSU game, got ice cream, went for a golf cart ride, watched two Christmas movies and played board games. It was a good day with my girl and I even had time to get my outside lights up.
She was excited to see our house with lights!
Matt and Katie went deer hunting and didn’t see any deer but got a HUGE hog that was bigger than her. Since it was her day and she wanted to skin it, he humored her and we have tons of meat. She FaceTimed me when they got in and and was in the best mood. She loved her day with her Daddy and he’ll bring her home before work tomorrow.
Lillian laughed and said “You know you’re crazy for making the dogs a cake, right?)
He loved how many people got on to say happy birthday in person and it was fun to see some of his friends and even my uncle that I haven’t seen in years.

This morning we met Matt and Lilli about 9:45 to switch. Katie and Matt had their day at the camp and Lilli and I had a day here. We went to Lowe’s and looked for some more Christmas decorations and watched movies and rode the golf cart around here too. I think she enjoyed her quiet time without a little sister as much as anything.

Even the dogs had a big weekend around here. Yesterday was Gypsy‘s first birthday and Lillian and I made a dog friendly birthday cake from a recipe I found on Pinterest. We gave Bella some too because she will turn six on Wednesday. There were even gifts involved.
Lillian laughed and said “You know you’re crazy for making the dogs a cake, right?)
I said, “You realize you’re the one stirring right now, right?” 😂
Hey! It’s 2020 and whatever brings happiness and fun I’m all for! Even if it is a dog birthday party.
We celebrated my Dad‘s actual birthday with a zoom call Thursday night and that turned out fun too.

What a weird time of year. This weekend usually marks the start of the holiday season to me and I start feeling all festive. But this year it’s like I’ve almost forgotten that Thanksgiving is this week. I’m sure the holiday spirit will come on the actual day but not having plans to travel and staying outside with the people we do see is just weird. It’s been eight months and I don’t think it something we will get used to. But I’m very hopeful that things will be normal again soon!
