Florida Keys Vacation

Matt and I had a trip to Mexico planned for March of 2020 to celebrate our 15 year anniversary that year, but just like everything else, Covid ruined that. We have been talking about planning something for awhile but at the end of January we decided to pull the trigger and book it! I wasn’t comfortable leaving the country because I was nervous one of us would get Covid while we were there and they wouldn’t let me come home to my babies, so we decided to finally mark off one of our bucket list trips and fly to Miami, rent a convertible, and drive down the Keys.

The car was fun! 2021, Fire engine red, Ford Mustang GT. We had the top down every time we were in it. We finally made it to our hotel about 4:00 Sunday afternoon and I was exhausted! We had been up since about 2:45AM so, after checking out our room at the Chesapeake Beach Resort and our amazing view,

we decided to just walk next door for dinner. We went to the rooftop bar for a couple of drinks and Matt had oysters

Before we went downstairs for dinner. We got back to the room by about 7:00 and I was asleep by 8:00 and slept till 7:00 the next morning! I never sleep like that, but a great start to a vacation.

The next day was started with coffee on the beach

And we ran by the grocery store to get a few things for the room before we went back next door for lunch.

3 bloody Mary’s set us up perfectly for a nap while it rained. 😉 It let up by about 1:30 so we still had the afternoon for beach time.

We tried two different beachside restaurants that evening, but by that time it was raining again and a little chilly, so we started looking for a place with an indoor area. We ended up at Chef Pierre’s and had no idea we were walking in somewhere as fancy as Ernest’s 🤣 Oh well, we decided you only love once and it was probably the best meal we’ve ever had

Raw tuna appetizer, I had the snapper and Matt had wagyu and lobster. I’d never even been to a restaurant with that kind of beef on the menu but, oh my, it was amazing! Barely cooked and they didn’t even bring a steak knife- no need! And that was the best fish I’d ever eaten.

It was a really nice date night and a place we will always remember. The day was exactly what we had been needing.
