Houston Weekend

It's become a tradition to visit Shanon and Alex around this time of year and it's always so nice to get to have a weekend with some of our best friends. We got there Friday afternoon and Chris and Carissa met us at their house to spend the afternoon on their way through town.  I hadn't seen them in 2 years so it was fun to catch up and meet their 9 month old, Claire.  The kids had fun playing together and it was so good to see them, even if it could only be for a few hours.

Saturday was very low key. Shanon was up at 6:30 lighting the smoker and cooked ALL day.  Starting at lunch time he had something coming off every few hours.  The weather was nice so we sat outside most of the day but never got out of our lounging clothes.

It was exactly the kind of day we needed because, even though it was so great to be there and see them, our visit wasn't all fun.  We left their house Sunday to check in to a hotel near Houston Methodist hospital so that Matt could see a specialist about his heart diagnosis on Monday.  The kids had fun swimming that afternoon

And we met Rachel and Chase at a Mexican restaurant for dinner along with Yaya and Jimmy who were there for the doctor visit.  Yaya came to the hospital and waited with me all day and was in the room while we talked to the doctor. I'm not really sure what I would have done without her there to talk to during all of those long waits. Although it's not the best news, it is what we were expecting.  It looks like more than likely Matt will be having surgery sometime soon but we are waiting on a few more tests before that is all decided.

Jimmy was there to play with the girls for us while were at the doctor.  And play they did!!! They started the morning at the Museum of Natural Science.  Lilli said that was her favorite and it was very cool.  I want to go next time we're looking for something to do with the kids.

From there, they went to the Houston Zoo.  I think they ended up being there for about 5 hours.  I'm not sure how Jimmy made it through this day but they had a blast!

Notice the backpack Lilli's wearing in some pictures? Jimmy called me today brag on her a little.  I had clothes, snacks, etc. packed in it and told Lilli it was her responsibility and Jimmy shouldn't have to carry it around all day.  He offered to carry it for her and told her he wouldn't tell me.  But her response was "(she) better not do that because once you lose someone's trust, it's very hard to earn it back." Not many 6 year olds would say that.  I love her sweet spirit.
It was an incredibly long day for all of us but I can't thank him enough for entertaining them for 8 hours around Houston.  He drove back that night and Yaya stayed in a hotel.  We went to Shanon's where he had dinner and beer waiting.  That was a good way to end that day.  Thanks Shanon and Alex.  You really outdid yourselves last weekend and we can't thank you enough.  It means a lot.
