Field of Dreams Recess
Lillian has been having a rough time about always being home lately. Katie doesn’t seem phased but Lillian is missing people. She was “little miss Apollo” (I called her that) in school and in all the clubs and all the committees. So it’s been more of a struggle for her. The first few months of homeschooling went great. The weather was nice and they’d swim everyday. Lily Jordan was doing virtual so we’d see her at least twice a week. But looking back at my blog, since November, we can easily go 3 weeks without seeing other kids outside of art. They didn’t even get the long weekends on holidays with cousins. So last week’s snow storm was the last straw for her and there were lots of tears at night. This Mama decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone for her and I organized a play date with a bunch of other homeschooling families today.
We went to the new Bossier park and it was packed with homeschool groups! I think there were 4 or 5 of them and I didn’t even realize that many existed. Apparently there is a big homeschool community in the area and pre-Covid there was always stuff going on. Lillian met another 5th grade girl and Katie made 2 new 2nd grade friends. The girls both told me it was really good to meet some people doing the same thing they are and not feeling so different. I sat at a table with 6 Moms and got to know them too and we talked about getting together weekly for park play dates and field trips. I also joined a group that gets together for weekly hikes at parks within a 2 hour radius. I’m hoping this can relieve all of our need for some socializing and I was so glad to see the smiles on their faces. ❤️
