Marry Someone Who Makes You Laugh

WE ARE HOME!!!! And NOTHING was going to stop us from getting to our girls but there were forces out there that seemed that they were trying.

I guess it started Wednesday. That was our original discharge date. But Tropical Storm Imelda decided to form out of nowhere and put herself directly between us and home.

I was stressed about the drive but we found a route to go west before heading north to skirt around it and decided we were not going to worry. What we didn’t realize at the time is how much it was affecting the whole city and the home oxygen delivery couldn’t get to us. (Who knew that didn’t come from the hospital?) We could have let it stress us but instead I wheeled him to the hotel restaurant where he got to have a steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. The first meal at a table in 16 days!

Then I wheeled him back to his room and I went to stay at the hotel one more night.

Yesterday morning my bag was in the car at 5:45 because I.WAS.LEAVING that day. Come hell or high water almost literally!

(Downtown hours after we left)

We were in the car at 9:30 but once again that was after coming up with a plan to drive around a storm that was even worse. I know if roles were reversed Matt would have driven straight through it but he never said one word about going a longer way and directed me around it. We made it through about 20 miles of scary driving and after that we were pretty much out of it. But just as soon as we were the low tire pressure light came on!

At this point I think we both could have lost it but instead we just had to laugh at the fact that we were even in the situation. He hadn’t walked without a walker until then and was in his pajamas but what are the odds that the exit we look was right at a Chevy dealership with a service station? It would have been better to never need a flat fixed to begin with but someone was looking out!

From there we had to go to two gas stations because one was out of gas and then had a 40 minute stopped traffic jam because of flooded feeder roads,

but after 7 hours we were home and in the arms of our babies! It seemed like nothing else could go wrong yesterday but we laughed through it all and once we were home it melted away. I told him if we could make it through a day like that and keep each other calm and still laugh, I guess I’ll keep him. 😏❤️ We are ready for our “do nothing” weekend with our girls!
