Fall Garden

It may have been 100° with a heat index even higher over the weekend but Matt is thinking about fall. He’s been talking about his garden and getting the spot ready for awhile and he and the girls got them built over the weekend.

They spent about 4 hours Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday but got it done! He went from about 36 ft.² to 178 ft.² of planting space and is super excited to get started. He even showed up with a surprise for me. I’ve been wanting some live plants for inside (although Nana laughs and says like I need anything else to keep alive 🤪) and he found some while he was there. I let them handle the garden beds while I walked and then got those repotted.
That third picture is some of the peppers he has been dehydrating to make some rubs. Very very little of our garden has gone to waste. He shared some produce with our next-door neighbor over the summer and that paid off yesterday when he showed up with a bag of head on shrimp that someone had brought him from South Louisiana. Those grilled on top of his homemade pesto with sautéed veggies… Yum!

All of that work ended with a roofing nail going into Lillian‘s foot yesterday. It was at least a half inch in and it’s a good thing Matt was home because we would have ended up in the ER if it was just me. He jerked it out and got it cleaned up before she even knew what was happening. But that wound meant she needed a tetanus shot today. She said it was pretty disappointing that the first public building she has walked inside since March 6th was the doctors office for a shot.

That started our interesting morning. On the way home we see a longhorn in the road of our neighborhood. I stopped so that I could call animal control and let someone know and I swear he was thinking about charging our car. Maybe not, but he got pretty close. 😉 all of that excitement meant school didn’t get started until about 10:30. Last week went great because the kids each worked at their desk while I sat at mine trying to get some real estate done. Well today, Lillian‘s videos were not working for some reason so I had to physically teach the lessons. We went to the dining room table so that we were not disturbing Katie but she did not like being in there alone. But the nice thing about homeschooling is she could go in the living room and watch the videos with Matt in there. (He had not left for work yet because he had to be home when I took Lillian to the doctor because only one person was allowed with her) It was an interesting day and didn’t go quite as smoothly as the first 3 which prompted me to rearrange the classroom yet again. I realized Katie needs to be by me so that she doesn’t get so distracted and pause her video 100 times. And Lillian needed to be on the opposite side of the room from her. We’ll get it figured out... one day!
