1st Half of Colorado
It has been 7 years since we have done a big family vacation with my side of the family. It’s so hard to find the time to do a full week, so we have been having weekend getaways at Michaelyn and Rick’s for the last several years. While we were there last summer, we all decided it was time for a big trip and picked the dates and got it booked, so we have been looking forward to this for over a year. Last Wednesday, Dad, Janet, Piper and Anna (Jen had flown to Denver a few days early to spend extra time with Ryan who is there training on a new plane) got to our house to drop off the dog and caravan together. The girls alternated which cousin they were with in the car each day and we all met up halfway in Amarillo Thursday night.
We ate at the Big Texan steakhouse and happened to run into the girls old riding instructor there. What are the odds??
On Saturday, we got up and met Chris and Carissa for a day. They moved to Colorado last summer and drove in from about 2 hours away. We had lunch at a restaurant that had an arcade and the kids played like they’ve known each other forever.
And then we took the gondola up to the top of the mountain. There’s a fun park with a 1/2 mile slide, roller coaster, rock walls, etc… we had planned to do some of that but it got rained out. The views were amazing though!
On Sunday, a group of us got up and did a 4 mile hike (Katie was having a hard time breathing so Dad and I took her and Piper back early and only did about 2.7)
And then Jen and Ryan took the girls back up the mountain to the alpine slide while Matt and I went out to lunch in our own.
That night was family game night and we played “Don’t be Meme” for 2 hours. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard!
Monday morning we got up and did a trail ride. Me, Matt, Lilli, Katie, Jen, Anna, Piper, Michaelyn and Rick got up and were at the stables about 8:00. The views were amazing and the riding was fun too, but Matt said we better have made a memory because that’s the last time he’s getting on a horse!
And then that afternoon, me, Jen and Michaelyn took Lilli, Piper and Katie shopping downtown. We walked around the shops and art galleries for 4 hours. They were troopers and Lilli loved that she had her own money to get some stuff she wanted
We have more hikes and fun planned for the next couple of days, so more pics to come!

We got to our house about 4:00 on Friday and were amazed at the views we can see from the living room.
