Happy Birthday Matt!!

I’m a day late on my post but we were too busy having fun in Colorado to sit and do it. Even though we were over 1000 miles from home, he still woke up to a birthday chair yesterday.

There were gifts in the morning and brownies and ice cream last night, with lots of fun in between.

We left about 8:00 to do the troll hike.

It’s a crazy sculpture that was made a few years ago with a couple of miles of trails around him. We only did about a mile but there were plenty of chances for some good pics and a couple of people in our group even saw a fox. (We were disappointed we missed it but then saw one even closer on the way out of town today- the fox, a moose and her calf, and a mule deer were our wildlife sightings this week)

From there, we went to Country Boy mine for a mine tour. This mine is 150 years old and the history was fascinating. We walked 1100 feet into the mountain and it was so cold and dark. At one point our guide turned off the lights and had only one candle lit so we could get an idea of the working conditions

When the tour was over, we were able to pan for gold. Most people found at least a few flecks and everyone found some cool stones to bring home

We were done by lunchtime and all went out to lunch, and then spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the house and packing to get ready to leave at 2:30 this morning

We all needed the rest after such a big week. There weren’t any days we stayed home the whole time. We usually did stuff in then mornings and then hung around the house for the afternoon/evening. Tuesday morning, while Dad, Jen, Michaelyn and Rick went on a 7 mile hike,

and Janet and her family did a dog sled tour, Matt and I took the 4 girls back up the mountain to slide and play some more.

We enjoyed bloody Mary’s while they played and even ran into a guy Matt went to high school with. Such a small world!

We will definitely miss the mountains and this view from the front yard

But we are also ready to get home to our animals and beds. They’ve been well taken care of, but we will see them in about 12 hours!
