Merry Christmas!

This Christmas was so different from anything we have done in over a decade, but it was so good. Ever since Kathleen was born, we’ve had the same traditions. We celebrate in Baton Rouge with my side of the family before Christmas, we celebrate with Matt’s side in Vivian on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day is at home with the 4 of us for most of the day, but several years Capn and Yaya have come to eat with us too. It’s been kind of a weird year for some of the family so we decided to invite my Dad and siblings to spend the day up here with us and I was so excited when they accepted. The last time I got to see my Dad or sister on Christmas Day, I was pregnant with Kathleen. Daniel and Allie had to work all but Christmas day so they didn’t make it, but everyone else was here.

Christmas Eve was still spent in Vivian with the McCormicks, but we did everything earlier than normal. We got there around 9:00 and stayed until about 2:00. It wasn’t long enough, of course, but I was glad we still got to see them on Christmas Eve. The kids played outside, we ate delicious food, got lots of good visiting with the adults and opened gifts.

Dad and Janet got tot the house about 3:00 and Jen, Ryan and girls got in about 4:00. They only had about 10 minutes to change clothes before we rushed out to make it to church at Cypress at 4:30.

Dad was skeptical about the Baptist church, but it was a really nice service we all enjoyed. We went home and had gumbo and watched a Christmas movie before getting the girls to go to bed around 9:00.

We all needed to get to sleep so Santa could come!

And he did! We woke up and had sausage balls and cinnamon rolls while we opened stockings, gifts from Santa and gifts from each other (one at a time- they all loved that 😉)

Around 11:00, Jen, Ryan and I took the 4 girls to Vivette’s for Piper’s last Christmas surprise- she got to ride that day! She is as big of a horse lover as Lil and has been riding for years. She takes lessons twice a week and volunteers with them twice a week too. She’s always wanted to ride with Lillian at her place and finally got the chance.

We stayed about two hours and Lillian even volunteered to feed that afternoon because Vivette had family in town. The rest of the day was spent watching Christmas movies and hanging out and we had a delicious meal. Prime rib, bacon wrapped green beans. spinach Madeline, scalloped potatoes, rolls and chocolate pie.

It was a wonderful, relaxed day and I was so thankful for the time with them. Merry Christmas!
