I’m Home!

We took this picture Sunday night as we watched our shows in his hospital bed. (It doesn’t matter where we are, I sure love being with him) The surgery was a success on Monday. They removed the defibrillator and his blood culture is clear. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he is home tomorrow but I’m not telling the kids until he and Yaya are actually on the road. He will have to be on IV antibiotics for 4 weeks but after that this should be over! He will have to go back to have a new device put in but that will be a one night stay. If he gets out tomorrow he will have spent 13 nights in the hospital. When he had open heart surgery it was only 10. It’s time to come home!!

Pops and I left yesterday because I had to get home to stuff with the kids. It killed me to leave and I cried and cried. I think it was finally the break of this whole ordeal I hadn’t had. But he’s good, I’m happy to be home and the girls are definitely happy to have me! We had a birthday dinner for Katie with Pops, Nana and GranJan before they had to leave today.

I can’t put into words how much it meant to me that my family dropped everything with only a couple of days notice to come spend over a week taking care of me and the kids. Dad spent the whole time in Houston with me and drove me there and back. And GranJan and Nana made sure the time away from mama and daddy was as good as it could be. They said they felt like they should be thanking me because they never get one on one time with the kids and it was so nice to get to know them in their own environment. Nana had done that a few times but GranJan never had. They said they were the sweetest girls and loved every minute. We definitely got a good report.

I think they may have been a little biased but Nana said even if you want a totally honest answer nothing would have been under a B+. :) I’ll take it!

And then before Dad and Nana left today...(Dad wouldn’t leave until orders had been put in for Matt’s release because he wasn’t OK with me being alone with even the smallest chance I might get some bad news away from him.) Nana and I took KatieJane to lunch and to register for kindergarten. It’s hard to believe that on August 14 I will no longer have any preschoolers. She is ready and definitely excited!

That’s the reason yesterday had to be the day I came home. I even called to find out how to register late but Matt was not having it. He wanted me to be here for that milestone for Katie and for her birthday tomorrow. We will take lots of prayers that he makes it in time for dinner. I know she wants nothing more for her birthday.
