"This is what it feels like to be gut shot by John Wayne"

There has not been anything about this process that has been funny.  The first 72 hours after surgery were pretty rough on Matt to say the least.  But, now that he's turned a corner today, I can giggle a little bit about the fact that "this is what it feels like to be gut shot by John Wayne" is one of the first things he said to me as he woke up from surgery.  He doesn't remember saying it but I'm sure that's how he really did feel at the time.

He's done great today.  He's walked the hall twice plus he's getting up every few hours.  And he had a shower, shave and brushed his teeth this evening before eating half a turkey BLT (don't tell the nurses :)

He's going to have a good scar but it already looks so much better than I expected.  Yaya and I have been switching shifts.  When he was in ICU there were only certain hours we could visit so we "busted out" for a few hours yesterday for a different lunch and to do some Christmas shopping.
It was the first time I had walked outside since Tuesday so it felt really good.  There's a crosswalk from the hotel to the hospital (which is really nice) but even when you leave the hospital, you don't feel like you did. He got into a regular room last night and I was able to stay with him.  Then she came over today and I went to the hotel for a good nap and shower.  I think this will be our system for the next few days until we are out on Tuesday or Wednesday.

We have everything under control here and Pops and Nana have everything going well at home.
Lilli thinks she got all straight A's on her tests yesterday so the school stuff is good. And they made it through a rainy Saturday with 2 busy girls and a busy Bella inside all day.  They are missing us like crazy and I honestly broke down for a few minutes when we hung up the phone this morning but in a few days we'll all be together again.
