Travel Day
We woke up Friday morning and had our usual breakfast tacos to get prepared for our long travel day. We were back on the water taxi at 11:30 and arrived at the Belize City airport about 1:30. When we got there we discovered our flight was delayed about an hour so we would not be leaving until 4:30 due to a mechanical issue. That always makes me nervous anyway but especially nervous when we had to fly through a storm with some turbulence. Our flight landed about 8:30 and I've never been more excited to be on the ground. It took about 2 hours to get through immigration and customs so it was 11:00 before we were in the car and heading out of town. Just a few minutes later, the bottom dropped out! Matt and I have neither one ever been in a car during a storm that bad. There was no visibility and the lightning was crazy. I was really freaked out and we were both exhausted so (even though I know Matt wasn't thrilled about it) he decided to stop at a hotel so we could get a few hours of sleep and let the storm pass. I know he was ready to get home (me too of course) but I couldn't imagine a 3 hour drive in that so I was thankful he gave in on that one. We got a few hours of sleep before getting up at 6 to make the drive to Alexandria to meet Dad to get Lilli. He offered to meet us Sunday but we couldn't wait to see her. Even though we were going on only a few hours of sleep and had been traveling for most of 25 hours, she made it worth every second of it. She latched on to each of us and gave us each the biggest hugs and kisses. She kept saying "I was so worried, I'm so happy you're home, I love you..." She was very giggly and the thing that really melted our hearts was when she grabbed one of each of our hands and said "we'll always be together." I may be biased but she really is the sweetest child. We told her we wouldn't leave her again... until a week next summer. :)
By 12:30 we were done with lunch and so we thanked Pops and kissed him bye to start the final leg of our trip. Lilli was really excited to be going home but I know she had a blast last week. She rode home with Pops from Austin on Sunday and spent every night at his house. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday she did a lot of playing with her cousins. I know they went to the spray park and Pops took them to see Ice Age. Plus a lot of playing at the house which is usually their favorite thing. Nana, Lizard, Jimmy, Theresa and Morgan came and played with her some too and she told me she also loved that.
Everyone had a wonderful week but we are all very excited to be home and together today.
