Ugh, the "joys" of being a homeowner

Matt got home Tuesday evening to a flooded front yard.  I noticed earlier in the day but was thinking it was just wet from the storm the night before.  It's a good thing I have him! :) He called the water company and had the water shut off (couldn't do it himself because the valve was too rusted) and went to look for the leak.  He originally thought it was under the slab so we were actually relieved when he discovered it about 6 inches in front of it.  He thought he was going to be able to fix it himself but it turned out the brass fittings had to be sweated in (and yes, he told me what to say there, I have no idea what that means) so he called a plumber.  By 7:15, yesterday evening, we had water again! It's funny how you take things like that for granted.  It was only out for a little over 24 hours and there were so many things I wanted to get done but couldn't. Within 20 minutes all 3 of us had bathed and I had a load of clothes and the dishwasher running.
We also got a little landscaping done during this process.  Matt had to pull up one of the bushes to get to the leak.  I've hated these bushes the whole time we've been the this house so I said while you're at it...
I laughed and laughed at the way he got this done.  He tied a snatch strap around the roots of the trees and then used it truck to pull it out! I told him I thought he just might be the smartest man I know. :) Apparently this is not a new idea but was the first time I'd seen it!
Trucked hooked up, you can see all the bushes
All 3 of them are gone!
Took this opportunity to get a pic of the new siding and roof too
Matt digging up the leak and a pic of the painted shutters.
Pic with only the roses and sago palms in front!
I'll have to plant something between the palms eventually
but have a little time to decide what.
