Morning playdate at home

Image
They were whispering as they ate their mac n cheese.  We wondered what they could possibly be talking about and Hunter's answer?... fruit cups.  Haha Cara's sister, Allison, is babysitting a little boy that is Lilli's age.  We decided to get them together for a playdate today because I think they were both going a little stir crazy.  I pulled out all of Lilli's big toys and covered the room with things for them to do.  It was like Christmas morning for Lilli because I don't usually let her mess up the living room like that.  Poor deprived child. :) They played well together and I was glad she got to practice sharing her toys at home before "other Lily" (as Lilli calls her) starts coming over next week. Cara, Allison, Carissa and I got to talk while we laughed at the two of them and ate chicken salad and angel food cake for lunch.  Playdates are more for the adults than the kids I think.

Playdate and Deer Camp Update

Image
Today was a pretty busy Saturday by our standards.  By 9:00 I had run, made breakfast, done a little cleaning, washed clothes and gotten dressed.  We met Lily and her Mom, Cassie, at the park for a playdate at 10:00.  The girls really didn't play together too much.  Lilli wanted to be in the sand and Lily wanted to play in the water most of the time.  They did play a little and the Moms got to talk though.  They'll be spending a lot of time together in July because Lily is going to be staying with us during the day most days so it was good they got to see each other again. I went in to work for a few hours while Lilli napped.  Yaya came yesterday so I could go but my car battery had other ideas of how my day should be spent and I had to catch up today. :) After I was done and she was up we rode up to the deer camp to see how the construction was coming along and to see the sunflowers.  I can't say enough how amazing it's going to be.  Beautiful Living

Cousins are so much fun!

Lilli and I went to Baton Rouge for 3 nights this week.  Nana was in Austin visiting the Keezels and Shoenfelts last week for her birthday so we decided to go this week and celebrate when she got home.  As an added bonus, GranJan drove her home and Andrew got to tag along.  Another kid to play with! We didn't do anything in particular while we were down there.  Monday night we had most of the family at Pops' house for dinner.  Most everyone came back for lunch the next day too.  After naps, everyone that could went over to Jen and Ryan's house for pizza and to let the kids play.  On Wednesday we tossed around idea for things we could take the kids to do that morning.  We looked around and all the kids were having a blast playing at the house so we decided not to mess with that! We got there at 9:00 that morning and they played nonstop (except for Lilli and Piper that did have a nap) until 8:00 that night.  Lilli woke up this morning and said "where are my cousins?"

Happy Father's Day!

"Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a dad." -- Anne Geddes Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's in my life! Today was a wonderful day with family.  We went out to the lake for lunch and a swim and to celebrate Father's Day with Cap'n.  What a great way to spend the day.

Great Start to the Weekend

It's Father's Day weekend so we've been celebrating since Friday.  Matt and I never do just one day of celebrating anything! I really don't understand why anyone would. Great excuse to do whatever you want and of course eat! It always seems to revolve around food.  We started off by checking out the new Mexican restaurant, Tito's, on Benton Rd. on Friday.  Here's a little bit of advertising for them to the 4 of you that read my blog. :) That place is delicious! We had queso, guacamole, tortillas, carne asada, and shrimp fajitas (light meal, haha) and everything was great.  Matt had a couple of margaritas too and said they rivaled Superior's.  Lilli ate 3 tortillas with queso and all of the rice and beans.  I think she loved it too.  She never eats that much! Then Saturday morning I surprised Matt with sausage balls for breakfast.  These are usually reserved for Christmas but they are his favorite so I figured he deserved them. Then Lilli and I met Rebe

Take your daughter to work day...

I had some work to do today that could only be done at the office so Lilli got to tag along.  It was... interesting.  She was good but she's also 2 and curious so I think 2 hours was a little too long.  The first hour was pretty much spent watching The Lion King on her little DVD player.  The 2nd hour was pretty much spent asking Sandy and I what we were doing. :) She didn't want to leave and thought work was so fun but I think I'm going to try to work it out to have only about an hours worth of work to do when we have to go.

You gotta try these squash chips

Image
I've never blogged about food before but I love to cook and try new recipes.  I was trying out a new one today and decided I'm going to start putting them on here because there is no easier way to share.  This is a recipe I got from Pinterest for squash chips and they are definitely worth trying! So super easy too.  All you do is slice them as thin as you can, put them in a ziploc and coat with olive oil and salt (pinterest recipe just had salt but I think the olive oil made it) and then spread them out in a single layer on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 200 for 2-3 hours. (Mine took about 2 1/2) Before After They look burned but trust me they didn't taste that way.  They are more brown than the pic from Pinterest but I found they had to get this way to get crispy.  Maybe it was the olive oil.  All 3 of us loved them and Lilli felt like she was getting a treat to have chips for dinner.  Definitely great for kids!

Check out these porches!

Matt went to the camp this afternoon to check out what kind of progress was made while we were gone last week.  I continue to be more and more amazed with this place.  I saw the plans and heard about it months ago but the picture in my head never compared to this.  I keep getting more and more excited.  I guess Lilli and I will need to take a trip up there this week because I am going to have to see this in person.

Hate to say goodbye....but good to be home

Friday was our last day in Gulf Shores and at the Sun Princess.  It was kind of a drizzly day so we didn't spend much time at the beach.  We did go down for a walk on the beach mid-morning but spent most of the rest of the day just hanging out at the house.  The weather may have been a blessing in disguise because it kept us all together all day and I think the adults were pretty worn out.  Lilli had a blast all week with her cousins but even she had enough.  She fell asleep in Matt's arms after lunch and I can't remember the last time that happened.  He put her down but a few minutes later she woke up screaming for Mama and that's not like her.  So what did Mama do? Enjoyed my "baby" wanting to nap in my arms because I know I can probably count how many more times this will happen. After dinner we went out to the deck for our group picture that has become a traditional over the last 3 years.  We got some of the individual families and kids too.  I think
