Trick or Treat!!

Image
We had a SCARY witch in our house tonight. Isn't she terrifying? :) Every time we said she was cute she said "No, I'm scary." She had a blast trick or treating tonight but I think she liked passing out candy to the trick or treaters that came to our house just as much.  Last year she cried the first few houses she went to and had to hold her Daddy's hand the whole time.  This year she walked up to the houses "all by myself." It made the night even better that Yaya, Nana and Peggy all came to go with her.  Nana and Peggy got here yesterday to spend two nights so they could be here today.  Yesterday evening we all sat outside while Matt and Lilli carved the pumpkin for tonight.   And this morning we went to the park to walk and play for a couple of hours.  It was a pretty lazy day but a perfect way to spend our Halloween.

Fairfield Bay, Arkansas

Image
My Dad owns a timeshare in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and me, him and Lilli are here this week.  He never uses it so this year I suggested he take advantage of it.  Originally Matt and I were going to take Lilli but that was before we ended up going to Belize so he decided to stay home and work and let just us and Pops go.  It's not like all of Wyndham's other resorts because this place is it's own town.  People live here too.  There are 8 restaurants, 4 hiking trails, a fitness center with indoor pool, 2 marinas for fishing and boating, 2 golf courses, mini golf, a playground, ice cream shop, couple stores, bowling and you get use of their library for books and movies.  We got here Tuesday afternoon about 3:00 and got settled in to our room. It's a really nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo right on the 1st hole of one of the golf courses.   Afterwards we drove around to see what we could find and ended up at the playground for a little bit. We stayed th

Asbury Methodist Trunk or Treat

Image
Lilli and I went to Trunk or Treat at our church last night and had the best time.  I've been looking forward to this for a while because I have some wonderful memories with my family at similar things our church did growing up and I knew she was going to love it.  It's a fundraiser for the church, great time for fellowship and just a party to the kids.  We started the night by having her hand painted.  It was a face painting booth but she discovered when we went to The Revel that it's more fun on your hand because you can see it. They also had games for the kids and her favorite was the Pumpkin Toss.  You toss bean bags in to a pumpkin and win a piece of candy each time you play but she made it in once. I think she played about 5 times. :) Watching her friend from ballet, Aubrey, have a turn. She also loved the hay ride and getting to "trick or treat" at the cars that were passing out candy but I'm pretty sure her favorite part was the "

Discover the Dinosaurs!

Image
Matt and I took Lilli to Discover the Dinosaurs at the Shreveport Convention Center.  She is a little obsessed with dinosaurs so we were sure that she would love it.  I'm not exactly sure how it started but now she has a backpack filled with dinosaur figurines that goes with her everywhere, even to bed.  She's already told me that what she wants the most from Santa is more dinosaurs.  She was completely amazed by what she got to see this morning.  The exhibit started with an area you walked around to see the animated dinosaurs and read facts about them.  There were buttons you could push to make them move so of course that was cool.  (What is it with kids and buttons?) There was also a "dino dig" where you could use a brush to uncover dinosaur bones and a place to ride the dinosaurs.  Even dino themed mini golf which she and her Dad had fun playing.  We went through the whole thing twice and as we were leaving she said "I want to see it again."

Dixie Maze!

Image
Lilli and I met Matt when he got off work yesterday at the corn maze in Dixie.  I'd seen billboards and looked at their website and was sure it was something she would love.  I didn't think we'd actually get lost in the maze but we did! We let Lilli lead the way at first and that was a good way to do it.  It took us about 30 minutes to get through and we had the best time. Getting started Which way? This way! She got tired, plus Daddy's shoulders are more fun There was all kinds of other things for the kids too.  We didn't do the hay ride or cow train but I'm sure she would have liked those.  They had a "jumpy thing," a corn bin (pretty much a sandbox of corn to play in), and a pony ride. We were going to go to dinner after but she was so filthy that we decided to come home and put her in the bath instead.  A fun, family afternoon!

Can we carve a pumpkin Dad?

Image
Halloween may be over 2 weeks away but we already have a pumpkin in the living room.  Lilli remembers how much fun she had carving pumpkins with her Daddy last year and has been asking for weeks.  So when we got back from Baton Rouge, that's exactly what they did.  I got 3 pumpkins at Asbury Methodist last week because I knew this was how it would go.  He carved one this week that will surely be bad by the weekend.  So we have 1 to do next week and the other to have right before Halloween.  Matt's such a good Daddy for humoring her and carving that many for her.  Although I think he secretly likes it too.

Cousins!

Image
Lilli and I went to Baton Rouge over the weekend.  Pops got back from his 4 week trip to Europe on Tuesday and we couldn't wait to see him.  Lilli never likes to go more than a few weeks without seeing her cousins too.  She starts asking if I go much longer than that.  We had a pretty calm weekend.  Dad cooked dinner for a lot of the family on Friday and Lilli and her cousins got to play at his house.  On Saturday we spent the morning at Jen and Ryan's just letting the kids play and then that evening there was more playing at Jimmy and Theresa's while we ate and watched the LSU game.  Perfect weekend for Lilli (and I of course enjoyed it too.) Jen painted their faces for the game Girl tea party!

We're Farmers!

Image
I use that "we" very loosely.  You know, the way women use we. ("WE" need to cut the grass, "WE" need to take out the trash, haha) Really Matt has been working for about 3 months on this garden and it's starting to pay off! There are: mustard and turnip greens kale and radishes Purple hull peas And broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and red and butter leaf lettuce just planted. I've got mustard greens sitting in my kitchen ready to be cooked with some ducks.  So looking forward to all of the fresh vegetables that are soon to come.

Pumpkin Time!

Image
Lilli and I had a perfect fall day.  This morning we met Cara at Ellis Pottery to shop for some decorations for the front of the house and then after nap, we went to the pumpkin patch at Asbury Methodist to get some pumpkins to carve.  We missed having Yaya at the patch to take her picture this year.  Our light up decorations Our Ellis Pottery finds We're going to try to go to the corn maze and carve those pumpkins later this week so will hopefully have more fall posts soon.

Red River Revel

Image
Matt and I took Lilli to the Revel last night.  It's a huge art festival with a few rides, some tents with kids activities, live music and of course fair food! We walked around and looked at all the art we wished we could buy and then Lilli and I rode the Ferris wheel.  We went down to the kids area and started by letting her have her face painted.  She apparently loved it because she ended up with 4.  That took a while so by the time we convinced her she had enough we were hungry and didn't check out the other tents.  We did let her jump in the bounce house real quick on the way back up to the food though. Rainbow pumpkin, the other cheek was a ladybug     We ate our dinner of fried fair food while we listened to the music and then headed home with a tired little girl.  I'm going to try to take her back during the day one day this week so we can check out more of the kids area.  If I can get her away from the face paint tent!

Our Family Is Growing!!!

Image
That's right! Matt and I are having another baby! I'm pretty sure everyone that reads has already heard but this blog is a record of our lives so of course I had to include it.  I had my 3rd doctors appointment and ultrasound today at 10 weeks.  His or her heartbeat is very strong (166 at 7 weeks and 184 today) and measuring ahead of schedule.  Another big baby! We told Lilli a couple of weeks ago and she is excited although I'd bet she doesn't really get it.  We've explained that we will be the baby's Mama and Daddy too and that he or she will live with us and she seems to understand. I'm sure it's not going to fully sink in until he or she arrives though.  She is very sweet and always saying she wants to buy toys and clothes for the baby while we are in stores and says she's going to teach him or her "how to play." Her teacher asked me today if we knew what we were having but I told her we still had a few weeks.  She laughed and said

My little baker

We had a perfect fall day today.  We started the morning with a walk to the park to play.  When we got home we put up our outdoor Halloween decorations together.  And then after that, Lilli asked to make cookies.  She helped a lot! She mixed them (after I got it started for her) and then put them on the pan after I rolled them in to balls.  After they cooled, I iced them and she got to do her favorite part, the sprinkles!   Now the only problem is what to do with 2 dozen cookies. We sure don't need them all! haha
