Home Health and a Spring Fling

Image
What’s the saying? No rest for the weary? That’s sure describing our life about now. I have been going non stop since I got home Tuesday and I think Matt is feeling it today. Not that he’s doing much... but it’s definitely more than he was laying in a hospital bed. It started this morning with home health coming to teach him how to do his antibiotics.  What I thought would be quick was really about 2 hours. As soon as she left I rushed out the door to make it to the end of Lilli’s spring fling. I was worried she’d be upset that I didn’t make it on time but these girls want Daddy to be better more than anything so she was good.  From there I ran to my office and my listing to get ready to show houses tomorrow and have an open house Sunday. And then Katie and I went with Matt to his local doc (he was supposed to follow up) and got back just in time for this next dose.  His schedule will be 7:00, 3:00 and 11:00. It’s going to be hard to work around since he has to be home for them and he

Best.Birthday.Ever

Happy 5th Birthday KatieJane! You are the sweetest, funniest 5 year old I know and you light up my life! The day started pretty low key with the 3 of us girls waking up EARLY (pics were taken at 5:37- so before that) to decorations, donuts and presents.  Dad hated he missed that but he called early. I had a pretty good idea that he was going to be coming home today but I didn’t tell you that until he was in the car. So your morning was pretty normal with school so I could get ready for him but I did send cupcakes to share with your friends. After school it was Toys R Us to spend some birthday money  And while we were there we got the official word that Daddy was on his way home!  (Screenshot from the video of me telling you) He had been away almost 2 fulls weeks and I don’t think y’all have ever been apart that long. You are definitely Daddy’s little girl so to say you were excited is an understatement! You had been asking for a month to go to Chuck E. Cheese on your birthday but you d

I’m Home!

We took this picture Sunday night as we watched our shows in his hospital bed. (It doesn’t matter where we are, I sure love being with him) The surgery was a success on Monday. They removed the defibrillator and his blood culture is clear. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he is home tomorrow but I’m not telling the kids until he and Yaya are actually on the road. He will have to be on IV antibiotics for 4 weeks but after that this should be over! He will have to go back to have a new device put in but that will be a one night stay. If he gets out tomorrow he will have spent 13 nights in the hospital. When he had open heart surgery it was only 10. It’s time to come home!!  Pops and I left yesterday because I had to get home to stuff with the kids. It killed me to leave and I cried and cried. I think it was finally the break of this whole ordeal I hadn’t had. But he’s good, I’m happy to be home and the girls are definitely happy to have me! We had a birthday dinner for Katie with

A Little Lunch Date

Image
This may be the best lunch date I’ve ever had! Me, Matt and Yaya in the Houston Methodist cafeteria today. It is a BIG deal because his headache was better and his appetite was back enough to GO! This made me so happy. His blood cultures since the transfer have been clear. He still has to have his device out Monday and stay for a few days after. Plus the 4-6 weeks of home antibiotics. But I think he’s going to be feeling better sooner than we thought.  The girls are happy at home too. Hailey picked them up Friday for movie night Case’s school and a slumber party at her house where they had so much fun.  GranJan and Nana could use the rest after supporting Lilli at her 2nd grade field day that day. GranJan was in her element but it was still exhausting. She slept well last night!

Back to Houston

I mentioned the last couple of posts that Matt got pretty sick right after Easter with a high fever. He went to the doctor that Monday and got on a 10 day course of antibiotics and the fever went down during the time. But the day after it ended the fever was right back. He went back to the doctor last Friday and that afternoon we got a call that he needed to go straight to the ER because his white count was 30,000 (and normal is 4,000.) He had blood work, CTs, a spinal tap... they worked him over. We went in thinking we may be there one night and now five days later we are really just getting started. He’s in an ambulance as I write this on the way to Houston Methodist. It took us several days to get a bed down there but he is finally being transferred and we will hopefully be starting the healing process. According to the doctors here in Shreveport he has something called endocarditis caused by a staph infection in his blood. There’s really no way to know where it came from but it tak

Family Day

Image
I was wanting to do something the 4 of us today so we decided to make it a morning outing so the afternoon could be lazy. Our original plan was to start with the 1st day of the Bossier Farmers Market. There’s food trucks, bounce houses, clowns making balloons, face painting... on top of the usual farmers market shopping. Well we had a cold front come through last night and with highs in the 40s, Matt and Katie were done in about 12 minutes. We quickly grabbed the strawberries Lilli was wanting and we decided on breakfast at IHOP instead and save that for another day.  From there we went to show Daddy the Shreveport aquarium. We’ve been a couple times but it was cool to show him being the ocean lover he is.  The sting rays were his favorite.  I left them at the house to enjoy their lazy afternoon  while I went to finally get some baby love from Josie. She was born on April 4th and she and Cara are doing great. And she’s already got Luke wrapped around her finger.  I waited several days

Easter Weekend in Baton Rouge

Image
We had such a great time visiting family in Baton Rouge for Easter over the weekend. The kids are out Friday and today so we were able to leave early Friday morning and have some extra time. Friday night was a big family gathering at Jen’s house. I made lasagna and stopped at Lea’s for pies and Jen had everything we needed for lots of egg dyeing.  And then Saturday morning I took all 5 kids to Dad’s church for the eggstravaganza. There was egg dyeing with shaving cream (probably the only way I’m going to do it now), crafts, a puppet show, a pancake breakfast, pictures with the Easter bunny and of course an egg hunt. Daniel wasn’t interested in the fun so we put him to work as a volunteer.  No trip to Baton Rouge is complete without a trip to see Mike. We did get to see him but he never woke up. I got some beautiful pics of the kids on the statue tho.  And Saturday night was a party for Janet’s 60th Birthday. It’s a tradition in my family to do something special for that milestone birth
