Halloween 2019

Image
Another Halloween in the books! We got to have Pops and Nana here this year because they came to keep the girls while we went to Houston for Matt’s 6 week follow up Tuesday and Wednesday (very good check up btw! He’s further along than they expect at this point and don’t see any reason why he won’t eventually regain all of his pulmonary function- Thank God!)  The day itself was normal of course. Apollo 4th grade teachers had turned their classrooms into a “Mad Science Lab” and the day was full of fun and science experiments. Katie’s was a normal day of tests and lessons because of her field trip today so she was ok with that. Plus there was archery practice and homework after school. Matt and Katie carved another pumpkin before Lilli got home since our others already rotted. The evening was fun! Our zombie and sorcerer we’re ready by 5:30. Chris, Christy, Noah and Landry came over for dinner and to trick-or-great with us. (Poor Josie is sick again so Cara and Luke had to miss). We ate

Finally Fall

Image
I guess I haven’t really been myself this year because normally we are doing something “fallish” every weekend of October and the kids wear their costumes 3 or 4 times before the actual day with all the festivals we do. (I guess it didn’t help that the weather didn’t cool off until 2 weeks ago either.) But this weekend we made up for it! Saturday night was the Garcia Zombie Apocalypse Party.  Katie’s best friend’s family does a big party every year and it’s always fun. Matt came home from the deer camp early to do Katie’s makeup (she didn’t trust me to make it scary enough) and he was successful. She loved that all the kids told her how scary she was and ran from her. We stayed three hours and the kids ran around playing the whole time. I had fun visiting with friends too.  This morning we went to early church before going to the State Fair. This is the 2nd year we’ve taken them and they love it. I got a wrist band to ride rides with them too and I probably had more fun than they did.

Busy Week

This Meme pretty much sums up how I feel about this week. It’s “Red Ribbon Week” plus Apollo’s 50th party Thursday night and Halloween Bash tonight. We’re skipping out on the Halloween party because we have a friend one tomorrow night but you know we were there for the rest of it! Each day they had to dress up. Monday was easy enough, just a red shirt. Tuesday was when you grow up. (Dolphin trainer and Vet) Wednesday was dress like a rockstar (didn’t get pics of that one). Thursday was 60s Day.  And Friday was free dress for most of the school but first grade had 50s day to celebrate the 50th day of school. There was hula hooping, a sock hop, lunch in the classroom diner, Coke floats... I think you can tell by Katie‘s face this was a lot of fun. I went to Lillian’s three years ago but I was not able to go this time. Only room moms are allowed and I did not get picked this year. There were three of us that signed up and the person in charge picked the new mom who is in her first year a

Pumpkin Patch 2019

Image
I’m a little behind on this blog post because these pictures were taken last Saturday but better late than never! We met at Asbury’a pumpkin patch for our annual pictures at 11:30 Saturday because Lillian had to do a cleanup with 4-H at the school first  She loves her teacher! Luckily it was a perfect fall day so it still felt great mid-day. We always get the cutest pictures! The kids have learned over the years if they’ll just smile and get through the 15 minutes of pictures they get to pick out whatever pumpkins they want!  From there we went to lunch at Nicky’s, to see Josh and Hailey’s land (it’s beautiful btw) and then back to our house to watch the LSU game and paint the pumpkins we got. Katie had a project for school and she and Lilli made it turn out super cute!  It’s been a busy week at the school with Red Ribbon week and Halloween stuff... more to come!

Cousin Craziness

They say cousins are your first friends and I’d say that’s definitely true for our girls. From Baton Rouge to Arkansas they are happiest when they are with them. Even though Lilli had just spent 4 nights playing nonstop there were real tears when she had to leave a few hours early because she had to go to my open house because she had plans with friends after.  But we made the most of the 4 days. Friday was a cold, windy, rainy day so we decided to stay in and they never got out of their pjs. Case and Lane came over and played for hours too. My house isn’t very big so there was no way to escape the noise of 6 kids but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Saturday after going to vote  We went to the deer camp to spend a beautiful Saturday playing in the dirt, eating “daddy burgers” and gumbo (it was apparently national gumbo day which worked out- we planned it because it was the first day with highs in the 60s) and watching LSU beat Florida!  (Capn May lose his breakfast job 😉 because Li

Fall Break

Image
We came home from the game Sunday and went straight to Petsmart for the guinea pig. Well... once we got there and did some talking with the lady we realized how sociable these animals are so we got 2. 🤷‍♀️ They were the last two in the cage and we couldn’t leave one alone! The girls named them Max and Binx (Hocus Pocus characters since it’s October) and love them already. They are pretty cute!  Wednesday we made a quick trip over to Dallas to watch Austin’s baseball game and bring him and Josey home with us. I asked Rachel and Chad if he could skip a couple days of school and come play for fall break and the girls were excited they said yes!  We got there with just enough time to eat dinner and go to the game. It was bedtime by the time we were home and we were rolling out to head back to Bossier by 7:30 the next morning. A very quick trip but so glad we got to see him play and that we get 2 extra days!  We went to the park with Cara and Josie, played with all the animals and watched

The Girls 1st LSU Game

Image
LSU played Utah yesterday morning at 11:00 and 15 members of my family were at my Uncle’s company tailgate bright and early getting ready to cheer on the Tigers. We bought the tickets a couple of months ago and it’s been up in the air if our family of 4 was going to make it of course. We’d been waiting years for Katie to be old enough and we’re so glad we got to go. Everyone was so glad to get to lay eyes on Matt because half of them had seen him in the hospital and it was a big change from 4-5 weeks before. We even got to see Cary and Diane for a bit when they stopped by before the game and they were excited to see him too.  Our seats couldn’t have been more perfect because it was in the shade the whole time. Even thought it was 11:00 in October is was HOT with a high of 93. But we were comfortable in the shade. Matt did great too. He took a couple breaks and I know those stairs were probably his limit but he did it! No way was he missing that look on Lilli’s face. ❤️ She said it was

Big Day for Lilli

Image
The last 24 hours have been a big deal for Lilli Leigh.  It started really sad. Yesterday after school Matt and I had to tell Lilli that her hamster that we’ve had the last 4 years passed away. The average life span is only 2-3 years and we’ve had him 4 years and 2 months so he was definitely an old man. He lived a good life and Lillian really loved him. We had a funeral and buried him in the front yard and everyone cried. ❤️ We told her we thought she was mature enough to get a guinea pig and she cried happy tears that time. We will get him Sunday since we leave for Baton Rouge today and didn’t want to leave him immediately. But we’re ready for him! She had her first 4-H meeting where she served at Vice President. And we found out she made the archery team!  That kid has a full schedule! She does talented art, talented theatre, 4-H, Run and Fit and Archery at school. Plus gymnastics and another art class after school. I love that she’s so well rounded and as long as she keeps her grad
