Babies and Birthdays

Image
Our babies are here! We have been preparing for months and the day is finally here. We ordered our chickens while we were in Colorado and they shipped yesterday, and arrived today. I had some excited girls when I got the call! Yaya happened to be picking up Poppy from the groomer when we sent pics so she surprised us and stopped by to see them too. They are so much friendlier than I expected for Day 1. They happily get into our hands and fell asleep in the girls laps. When we left the room, they started chirping very loudly so we moved them to the living room and then they were fine. I think they are going to be a great addition to the family.  Not too much has been going on since we got back from Colorado. We had a mostly lazy weekend so that we could recover, except for when I left to go to Cara’s 40th birthday dinner that I threw her at We Olive and Matt went to work at the camp.  Katie has been spending A LOT of time on the phone catching up with friends and family. I’m a day late on my post but we were too busy having fun in Colorado to sit and do it. Even though we were over 1000 miles from home, he still woke up to a birthday chair yesterday.  There were gifts in the morning and brownies and ice cream last night, with lots of fun in between.  We left about 8:00 to do the troll hike.  It’s a crazy sculpture that was made a few years ago with a couple of miles of trails around him. We only did about a mile but there were plenty of chances for some good pics and a couple of people in our group even saw a fox. (We were disappointed we missed it but then saw one even closer on the way out of town today- the fox, a moose and her calf, and a mule deer were our wildlife sightings this week) From there, we went to Country Boy mine for a mine tour. This mine is 150 years old and the history was fascinating. We walked 1100 feet into the mountain and it was so cold and dark. At one point our guide turned off the lights and had only one candle lit so we cou

It has been 7 years since we have done a big family vacation with my side of the family. It’s so hard to find the time to do a full week, so we have been having weekend getaways at Michaelyn and Rick’s for the last several years. While we were there last summer, we all decided it was time for a big trip and picked the dates and got it booked, so we have been looking forward to this for over a year. Last Wednesday, Dad, Janet, Piper and Anna (Jen had flown to Denver a few days early to spend extra time with Ryan who is there training on a new plane) got to our house to drop off the dog and caravan together. The girls alternated which cousin they were with in the car each day and we all met up halfway in Amarillo Thursday night.  We ate at the Big Texan steakhouse and happened to run into the girls old riding instructor there. What are the odds??  We got to our house about 4:00 on Friday and were amazed at the views we can see from the living room. On Saturday, we got up and met Chris an

Cousin Camp 2022

Anna and Piper got to come to our house for the 4th Annual “Cousin Camp.” We always love having them, and the only downfall was that it had to be so short this year. But between trips and Lilli’s work for us, and camps for Piper, this was the only time we could squeeze in a visit. After a relaxing 4th of July on Monday, we had a fun day on Tuesday. They swam that morning, and then we met a group of friends for bowling and playing at Surge that afternoon  It was so fun and this was probably my favorite thing we did this week because even the Moms got to play. We did bowling, the ropes course, obstacle course, dark ride and played arcade games. We stayed over 3 hours and had a great time catching up too. Wednesday was Splash Kingdom and it was fun but kind of sad it was too hot for a water park! Their feet burned walking to different slides and got sunburned so bad their eyes hurt, despite reapplying sunscreen So we stayed less than 3 hours but it was fun while we were there and I still
