Pea Pickin’

Image
Capn has a beautiful, massive garden this year and we went the other day to spend some time with him and Yaya and pick some veggies. We spent about two hours picking and about two hours shelling and putting them up.  We ended up coming home with 20 quart bags of peas plus green beans, a watermelon and cabbage. It was a really nice morning and the kids and Matt and Capn worked hard.  (Yaya and I worked too but not like them, lol 😉) The best part is when the kids help they get excited to eat them too. I hope to go back soon. Thanks Capn!

Daddy’s Girl

Image
I post all the time about how much our girls love their Daddy. Well... that doesn’t change when they get to be 38 because I’m still Daddy’s girl too. He knows we are still strictly social distancing but couldn’t go any longer without seeing me and his grandkids (probably Matt a little too 😉) so he drove up for a social distanced visit.  He got here Monday evening and we did show him the house but spent the rest of the evening outside. The kids swam and he also brought a BB gun that they had a lot of fun shooting.  So much fun that he left it for them. 😊 He stayed in a hotel but was back early the next morning and we drove up to Arkansas to pick veggies in the garden and fish in the pond.  He caught 12 fish in the 45 minutes we were there and said that was the most fun he’s had fishing in a really long time. We came back to the house for lunch and then he went back to the hotel for about 4 hours to get out of the heat of the day before coming back for dinner. He stopped by for coffee

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads! We sure have some good ones. I’m thankful for Matt who always puts his family first and takes such good care of us. I’m thankful for my Dad who is always there for me when I need to talk and will drop everything to be here when I need him. And I’m thankful  for our Capn whose #1 priority is making sure everyone is taken care of and we have ways for us to all be together. I wish we were getting together for burgers at the lake today but that will have to be celebrated another day. Even though we can’t be together with our Dads/Grandpas, I hope everyone has a great day!

Things Look A Little Different

Image
We may still be social distancing but life must go on. I know it’s not a “need” but I was scheduled for a haircut the week that all of this started so I have been dying for one. I never could bring myself to go but finally came up with a solution. I wore my mask, had her cut it dry, and she put on my color. Then I went home to let it sit and washed it out myself. In and out in 15 minutes definitely minimized exposure and made me feel so much better! We’ve seen Yaya a few times but always from 6ft apart and it’s hard to be so close and not able to hug. So she came up with a solution for that too!  She showed up with donuts this morning in a blowup dinosaur costume and got to hug her grandbabies for the first time in over three months. I got a hug too and to be honest watching them and getting one myself had me tearing up. Contact is a NEED and this was a fun solution. Things may look a little different but we are finding ways to “physical” distance not “social” distance. This could be g

Week Catch Up

Image
It’s been about a week since I posted so I really just want to catch up on pictures. A lot of the world has decided COVID is no longer a “thing” but that’s not the way we are choosing to handle things. I get why people who have never been through hospital stays feel that way but we had a telehealth appointment with Matt’s doctor today that confirmed our household should be staying in and that’s what we are going to do. It was our plan anyway but today’s appointment made us feel better that it’s the right decision. We will be staying home unless we have to go out,  (We’re discovering all sorts of things can be done online including virtual glasses fittings when the lens pops out 😉) only seeing most people from 6ft apart, and now 99% sure we will be homeschooling. I don’t mind though. Of course we miss extended family and some days I’m going crazy but being together the 4 of us and staying safe is most important. And we’re working on ways to have some socializing with friends and family

They Don’t Want To Be Apart

I said in my other post Matt was taking the kids to the camp but Katie getting an ear infection changed our plans. Austin and Josey ended up staying a 2nd night before Rachel came in Thursday to get them. She offered to take all 4 but poor little KatieJane’s ear was really bad and she wasn’t sleeping well so she stayed here with Josey while Austin and Lilli went with Rach. After 11 weeks of no one to play with but their siblings they can’t get enough of having cousins!  After working a little Friday morning me and the 2 little girls loaded up to meet them up there. Matt was working all weekend so we thought we’d go up there to hang out with him but his days were so long we didn’t even really see him. But that was ok because the kids were doing exactly what they wanted to be doing.  We hung out in the tractor shed, helped in the garden, rode around, made homemade ice cream and chilled. They played all day but slept in separate houses at night. We seriously missed having Case and Lane th

Homegrown

Matt has been working in his gardens daily and I’m starting to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Last week he brought home the first squash and zucchini of the year and grilled that up with some duck. Perfect summer meal.  And then Sunday he and Lillian made homemade pesto (while I napped- even better!) from the basil in the garden.  It was WAY better than anything from the store. And I had him grill up a “little” chicken to freeze for salads.  The kids devoured that one! I can’t wait for fresh veggies daily and it’s getting close!

Officially Summertime

Image
Last week was supposed to be spent laying around on the beach with the McCormicks, kids and adults all enjoying spending time together. But 2020 had other plans and we’ve really been missing family. Of course we’ve SEEN each other a few times but it’s not the same as being together  without worrying about kids staying 6 ft apart. So late last week Me and Matt and Chad and Rachel all decided it was time. All members of both households had been isolated without going in public places or within 6 ft if anyone for over 2 weeks so we figure that’s as safe as anyone can get. We have to trust our “bubble” and also have the understanding that when things inevitably come up (Austin has an ortho appt mid month and I need to schedule a doc appt) we will have to distance for a certain time again after. It may be more than necessary but there are too many unknowns with this virus to chance it. But for now everyone is good and the summer fun started! It’s hard enough on adults to feel isolated so I’
