Thanksgiving Break

Image
When Matt was in the hospital our family dropped everything to be there for him and help with the kids without a second thought. And of course no one ever wants there to be the circumstance where you can return that kind of favor but I have been happy to be able to do it for Rachel a little this week. She had a bad reaction to a medication that put her in the hospital and she’s been dealing with it for several weeks. She’s starting to do better now but Hailey went over there last week to stay with her and then brought the kids back here. It truly does take a village and I don’t know what we would do without each other. I’m happy to be able to help in a small way.  They got to Vivian late Friday and Yaya and I were there with the other 4 when everyone woke up Saturday morning. These kids are so sweet and really love being together. From there we went to the deer camp for two nights to be able to spread out and play a little more.  We really didn’t know what our plan was going to be but

Happy Birthday Pops!

Image
Pops came in yesterday to spend his actual birthday here with us. He’s going fishing with some friends in Oklahoma today through Saturday so he decided to stop on the way. His dinner request was fried deer meat and mashed potatoes. Everyone was happy with that!  This is the most perfect shirt for him too. We’re so lucky we’ve gotten to spend so much time with him lately. Happy Birthday Pops! We loved spending your day with you.

Pops’ Birthday Weekend

Image
We had a great birthday weekend for Pops in Baton Rouge. It was a quick trip because Matt and I had a date night Friday and went to dinner and a movie so the girls and I didn’t leave until Saturday morning and got there about noon. It was Piper and Anna’s big school fair that’s the big fundraiser of the year so we went with them. It was serious! There were rides like the State Fair and food trucks from the some of the best restaurants in town From there we to Dad and Janets for his big family party and to watch the LSU game. We had probably 20 members of the family there but he was most excited all 3 girls and all 5 grandkids made it.  He’ll be here Tuesday for his actual birthday on the way to go fishing with friends. We had to leave pretty early this morning to get back in time for Raegan’s graduation party. She’s graduating early and leaving for BYU on December 30th. I teared up at the thought of her not being around. She has helped us so much the last 4 years and the girls love her

More About Matt’s Deer

Image
My one picture and one paragraph wasn’t enough information about Matt’s deer. This is the “Big One.” The one he’s been patterning since August and watching show up to his set just about every night.  During the month he spent in the hospital Capn even kept corn out for Matt and that kept him coming back. He’s been waiting and waiting for his chance and it finally came, (he was on the camera two weeks ago, on a Sunday afternoon, during muzzleloader season, during shooting time but we were at the State fair😬). Here are the stats: *Location: West Pac-Man ground blind  *Gun: .270 Win A-bolt *Distance: 87 yards  *Rack: 10pt *Size: 200+ lb. (🤷🏼‍♂️more    than me) *Shot placement: Engine room/heart  *Blood trail: Dumped for 60-70 yards.  It takes up half the freezer! We have plenty of meat in the freezer and he’s got the big one so I asked if he was done. Of course not! 😉 But he did say the kids can go with him whenever they want now. Should make for a very fun Thanksgiving week!

Great Weekend All Around

Image
This was a great weekend for all of us. Matt went to the camp because it’s opening weekend of rifle season and the girls and I stayed home. Friday night they went to parents night out at the gymnastics place while I had a quiet night to myself. They were out until 10:30 so they actually slept in until after 7:00 Saturday which is late for us. 😊  Katie had a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese so Cara met us so Lillian could play with Josie while Katie was with her friends.  While we were there I got calls that two offers had been accepted so to get two houses under contract before noon made it a great day for me. Between that and the fact that LSU pulled off a win against Alabama it was a great day!  But the best part was that Lillian came to hang out and watch it with me while Katie and her friend played. Lillian and I hadn’t spent that much time just hanging out in a long time and it was a lot of fun. She’s really growing up. During half time she went out and practiced with her bow fo

Do They Ever Do Schoolwork?

Apollo seems to always have something going on. I mentioned the classroom transformation that happened yesterday. Monday was the 1st 9 week “house party” (they divided kids in to houses like Harry Potter and can win points for grades and behavior) and party for kids who sold the most Disney raffle tickets. Lilli’s house won so she was at that and then got to stay for the 2nd party. One of the teachers sent me this picture of the girls about to race and said they were super competitive.  Today was the 1st grade field trip to the Aquarium. We have never been to a field trip there before and it was very interesting. I learned a lot of new things and it was fun to watch the kids. I have a million things I could be working on but I’ve never missed a field trip and didn’t plan to start today. In the grand scheme of things it’s just a few short years that our kids are little and want me around for everything and my goal is to disappoint them as little as possible. (I definitely won’t say neve
