Happy Halloween!!

Image
I think we had the cutest dinosaur and flower I had ever seen tonight.  We were supposed to be in Baton Rouge to trick-or-treat today but the bad storm that covered pretty much the whole state kept us home one more day.  We are still leaving in the morning for the weekend but we definitely made the right decision.  It had all cleared out up here by the time it was time for trick-or-treating but I hear the Baton Rouge cousins got pretty wet.  And what were the McCormick cousins up to tonight?  Austin and Lilah win best "couples" costume as Mario and Princess Peach.  They are too cute! And Case has to be the most adorable little bear I've ever seen.

First Friends Fall Festival

Image
Lilli is really loving preschool. She has lots of friends and loves all of the fun things they do.  In the last 2  weeks they have had a field trip to the pumpkin patch and a Halloween festival.  Yaya was so sweet to come keep Katie so that I could volunteer during it on Wednesday.  All of the kids dressed up in their costumes and rotated around to all of the classrooms for different activities.  There was pin the nose  on the pumpkin Face painting  Singing and dancing  And lots of other games.  As you can see the costume only made it about 30 minutes but she had so much fun! I feel so fortunate that I am able to make it to all of these things and share this with her.

Quiet Weekend at the Camp

Image
We spent the weekend at the camp again so that Matt could deer hunt.  Cap'n was there Friday night and Saturday morning but the rest of the weekend it was only the 4 of us.  I'm sure Lilli wished that Cap'n would have stayed because Mom and Dad aren't nearly as much fun.  By 9:30 Saturday morning they had already had a handstand lesson And gone for a tractor ride to "mow the garden for Daddy and haul some rocks for Uncle Josh."  We can't compete with that. :) Matt did take her down to the garden to pick some greens for dinner  But the rest of the afternoon was rainy so we pretty much layed around playing and watching movies. Katie Jane was 6 months old yesterday and I think she's going to be crawling any day.  She can get across the room now but she pretty much gets up on all fours and falls forward.  Once she gets coordinated enough to move her arms at the same time she'll be gone!  She's very proud of herself

All the way from Iwo Jima

Image
I wish my Grandpa was still here to tell us the story himself but this gun has a lot of history.  The story goes that during World War II my Papa was stationed on a Navy ship off of Iwo Jima.  One night he and a few of his friends snuck off of their ship to go exploring.  (Now I don't know too many details but I would have to assume this was after the famous battle if they felt like this was a good idea.) They are exploring caves during the night and run across a stock pile of weapons and they each steal one.  On the way back to their ship that night they are fired on by their own ship because the don't know it's them since they had snuck off. Nana told me that she asked him how he got it home without ever being caught and he simply said he had it in his locker on the ship and then stuck it in his bag.  That would never happen today but that was before everything was so regulated.  So the gun that was used to kill our rabbit dinner yesterday (which I was surprised at how mu

La Bella Baskets

Image
I am so excited to announce that I have recently started my own gift basket and flower business by becoming a consultant for La Bella Baskets.  I'm pretty sure that everyone that reads my blog has already heard about this but you never know when someone else will read so I wanted to mention it. You can view all of the gifts that are available on my website: AmyMcCormick.LaBellaBaskets.com.   This started by me looking for a part-time job.  I was hoping to find something with hours where the girls could just go to Mothers Day Out and Preschool and not full time daycare.  I kept running across Ads for La Bella Baskets and decided to read about it.  There were lots of articles talking about what a great company it is and was ranked by a business magazine as one of the top 20 work at home companies.  They don't ask you for money and you get paid for marketing their products.  I've done some form of marketing in every job I've had since college and it has always been my favo

Start of Deer Season

Image
We went to the camp this weekend to spend it with Matt, Yaya and Cap'n.  Deer season opened and the weather was perfect to spend outside so we decided to go.  Lilli had too much fun:   swinging on the new swing Cap'n had built   hanging out with Matt and Luke while they did some shooting   going on rides with Yaya and Cap'n and exploring the deer stands     picking greens with Daddy and cooking them   cooking some Halloween treats with Yaya   They wore her out!   You may have noticed I wasn't really involved in any of this.  I got sick over the weekend so didn't really feel like leaving the house much and had no voice.  I'm sure it was a new experience for my in-laws to spend the weekend with me and not hear me.  I always say Lilli gets her constant talking honestly. :)  I pretty much stayed around the house with Katie.  We did sit outside some because they weather was too pretty not too but I didn't venture out much

My "cautious" child

Image
Back in February I posted about getting Lilli her first bicycle once she was fully potty trained. And last December I showed pictures of the power wheel that Santa brought her.  Well, being the cautious child that she is, she has been too afraid to ride either one of them. Ever. Until yesterday!  She decided that she was ready and rode both all afternoon. I took her to the park to teach her to ride the bike and after about a mile she had pedaling down and later she drove the car all over the backyard. I'm so glad they are finally getting used after 8 and 10 months. This is the way she's gone about everything in life. She's nervous to try things but as soon as she makes up her mind she never looks back. She's done this with everything from walking, to using the potty, to going to children's church. And I'm always so proud when she does. :)

Matt Covered All His Bases

Image
Matt has been hunting at the camp every weekend since the beginning of September and last weekend was probably the only one we will spend at home together until February. We had a full one but it was a lot of fun. Friday, Matt and I went out to Texas Street Steakhouse. Chris and Carissa were so sweet to offer to come sit out the house after the girls went to bed. Then Saturday he cooked ALL day so we could have our friends over for the LSU game. And Sunday he planned a perfect "family fun day." Now I'm really just giving him a hard time because he wanted to have all these plans and I know he had fun, but I'm sure it wasn't an accident to have date night, time with friends and fun with the kids right before hunting season starts. :) The girls and I thank him because it was just what we wanted. Lilli even said this morning that she had so much fun on her "no work days."  Sunday was pretty much all about what Lilli wanted to do.  It started with pumpkin car

LSU vs Florida

Image
The Tigers beat one of their biggest rivals yesterday with a score of 17 to 6. The Florida game is one of the most anticipated games each year so we always look forward to watching it. This year we had Cassie, Dillon, "other' Lily, Luke, Chris and Carissa over for it. That's 6 adults and 2 kids eating but we had enough food for 30. I wish I would have gotten a picture because I'm not sure I can even name it all. To start we had salsa, guacamole, crab dip, artichoke dip and bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. For dinner there was chicken, Cornish hens, beef and pork ribs on the smoker. Then purple hull peas and macaroni to go with it. For dessert, monster cookies and pumpkin cake. We had asparagus and garlic bread to cook too but decided not too because that would have just been to much, haha. We pretty much just kept up with the score during the game because we were having too much fun talking and watching the kids.  Katie sat up with no hands on the ground for the first

Loving This Weather

Image
The girls and I have been enjoying the cooler weather this week. The highs have been in the 80s and lows in the 60s so I'd really rather it about 10 degrees cooler. (That's for you Matt since you say my perfect temp can only vary about 7 degrees ;) ) We've been spending a lot of time outdoors going for walks to the park and playing in the backyard.  We went downtown to the Red River Revel yesterday afternoon and enjoyed the day too. We met up with Carissa and Cara for a lunch of fair food while listening to music and then went to the kid area for face painting and sand art. We made a quick pass by the art on the way but that wasn't very exciting to a 3 year old. Perfect day for it.  Today we met Yaya, Hailey and Case at the pumpkin patch at our church to get some pictures of the cousins and pick up our pumpkins for Halloween. I only got one on my phone but I should have another post soon with the ones I get from Yaya. I think she got some cute ones.  After lunch I had t

Sci-Port

Image
I took Lilli and Katie to "TerrificTuesday" at Sci-Port this week. The first Tuesday of each month Caddo and Bossier residents get $3 admission.  It's probably been over a year since the last time we went so I was amazed at what she got out of it.  All the times before she pretty much just played in the kid room and didn't learn anything but this time she was interested in everything.  I was very thankful for the signs that explain the exhibits so she thought I knew what I was talking about. :) She couldn't wait to "see the next activity" and even sat through a couple of interactive demonstrations.  She learned how to make a worm compost and sat through something that talked about constellations.  We were there for 4 hours and she could have stayed much longer.  We'll be going back every month.
