Finally Feeling Better

Image
Poor Lillii felt pretty rough for a few days there. Yesterday was the first day she really ate anything since Thursday and I was glad to see her up and moving again.  We had a good family day at the house and spent some time playing outside and making pine cone bird feeders and carving pumpkins. She and I also went to see Dolphin Tale.   She already saw it once with Yaya but wanted to see it again in theaters. Dolphins are all she's talked about since she saw them.  Katie just liked eating the peanut butter :) Matt also converted Katie's bed to a toddler bed.  She has been waking up SCREAMING during the night for several weeks now and will NOT go back to sleep no matter how long I leave her until I bring her to our bed.  While we were in Corpus she slept all night for 2 nights on an air mattress though.  I got to thinking that maybe she just hated the feeling of being "locked up" and wanted real pillows and blankets.  So I took her to Walmart and let her pick her new

What an End to Our Trip!

Image
We left Corpus Christi early yesterday morning and headed to the Houston Zoo to top off our week of kid fun.  I should have known something was off with Lilli when she asked if we could rent a double stroller so she didn't have to walk but I didn't think much of it at the time.  We enjoyed seeing all of the animals and Lilli's favorite part was feeding the giraffes. I thought Katie might have been too afraid but who was I kidding!  I always love the zoo as much as they do so I was glad we got to go.  It was a fun time just me and my girls and allowed us to break up our trip even more.  We left about 2:30 and headed to Shanon and Alex's house for what I thought would be an evening of playing. Uncle Shanny is always so much fun! But instead, Lilli and I both came down with a stomach virus and spent the evening on the couch feeling pretty rotten.  She had it much worse than me and it's so sad to see her feeling that bad. I felt so bad because they had a nice dinner pla

South Padre Island

Image
We drove about 15 miles South this morning to enjoy one of the beaches on South Padre Island.  Lilli has been begging to go back to the beach since we went in June and I was really excited it got to happen.  When we planned this trip I thought it would be too cold to wear bathing suits and get in the ocean but I was wrong! Alex is still a little too little too appreciate the beach for too long so he and Carissa stayed about an hour.  The girls and I were there for 4 with only a 30 minute break for a "tilla" lunch.  They had a blast playing in the sand and Katie finally decided it was fun to play in the water too about the last hour.  We have had a really good visit and are sad we have to go tomorrow.  We are super excited that we get to see Uncle Shanny and Ms. Alex tomorrow though! We're stopping in Houston to break up the trip and for some more fun!

Our Dolphin Tale

After a looong drive yesterday we finally arrived in Corpus Christi a little before 5:00. We were traveling for 9 1/2 hours including stops We took a long break on the south side of Houston But the kids did great! Katie only slept for 30 minutes and Lilli didn't sleep at all but they watched movies, colored and played together.  We played for a while and had dinner that evening but were all in bed fairly early to get ready for today.  It's Alex's birthday and we had a whole day of fun planned.  We played around their house for the morning but after the babies napped we went to Texas State Aquarium.  Lilli is "obsessed" with dolphins and this aquarium has 2, Shadow and Kai.  There is a really cool underwater viewing area and this is where Lilli got her first glimpse of a live dolphin.  I think it's safe to say she is even more obsessed now.  There was also a cool dolphin show where the trainers had them do tricks.  Lilli volunteered and opened the show by runni

Fall Fest

Image
Today was the Fall Fest at First Methodist and the first church function (other than children's church and services) we have been to since we started attending a few months ago.  It was a fun time full of games, face painting, crafts, a hayride...  Katie's favorite was the bounce house and Lilli was very excited she won the sack race.  I really enjoyed watching them both run around enjoying everything.  It brought back so many memories of our Halloween carnivals when I was a kid and it's so special to know we're making those memories with them.  They had hot dogs for lunch but Lilli is the only kid in the world that doesn't like them so we stopped at Nicky's on the way home.

It's The Great Pumpkin...

Patch that is. The girls and I met up with Yaya, Hailey and Case at Asbury Methodist's Pumpkin Patch this morning for our annual fall photo shoot.  I think we've done it evey year since Lilli was 1 and we always get precious pictures and find our "perfect pumpkin."  Lilli spends a long time looking because she and Matt take their pumpkin carving very seriously and this year she found 2.  They've got lots of carving to do but that's ok because they usually do one a week the whole month of October.  I'm not sure who enjoys to more. The cousins had a good time running around the pumpkins and I got a couple of cute shots on my phone.   I think Yaya took about 300 in the 30 minutes we were there do I'm going to steal a few more from her  blog once she gets it up. ;)

It only took 10 years....

But I finally learned to fry deer steaks. I've never really wanted to learn because I didn't want to fry at home for fear of eating bad for us food too often. (That and Matt already knew how to cook it so well I figured why mess with a good thing, lol) But it's always been one of my favorite meals at the camp and he hasn't had time to come in and fry after work lately so I decided it was time to try it.  I'm so glad I did because it was delicious if I do say so myself! :)  I have a feeling we'll be eating it way more often than we should.

Sunday Funday at Dixie Maze

Image
I love weekends in October! The weather is starting to get nice and we usually have some free time to do things together.  Today we went to Dixie Maze farm for some family fun.  We started by playing in the corn bin And then tried to get ourselves lost in the maze.  It's a really cool place to spend an afternoon with lots to do.  There's also the "jumpy thing" Pony rides.  Lilli always loves to ride.  Katie was excited at first but only went a few feet before she started crying  And flowers and pumpkins to pick  We all enjoyed being outside in the fall weather (in the 70s- I'm sure northerners would laugh at that but to us it's perfect!) but the best part was being together.
