Isla Mujeres

Image
Matt and I just got back from a wonderful 5 nights in Isla Mujeres, Mexico.  He's been talking about us going there together since he went with Capn and Josh 6 years ago and I can see why he loves it so much.  I told him I can see this being "our place" and going back every year.  From the time we got on the ferry It was nothing but blue water and skies and beautiful sunny weather.  The highs were in the mid 80s with the low around 70 and it was perfect.  We got there Saturday afternoon and spent that day hanging around the beach and bar because we were too exhausted to do much else. But then Sunday morning we got up and walked around the North end of the island for an hour while we waited on the place to rent a golf cart to be open.  Not much is open on Sundays and we had the place almost to ourselves.  After we got the golf cart We drove to the East side of the island and hiked Punta Sur.  This was one of my most favorite things we did.  The views were so

Beauty and the Beast

Lilli was finally able to get out of the house yesterday.  After a full 7 days of running fever over 100, it finally broke mid-day on Saturday.  We all needed to get out so we went to see the new Beauty and the Beast.  (Even Daddy!) The original has always been Katie's favorite movie and it's also the theme of her birthday party next month. And then after we went to Hooters (or the owl restaurant as Lilli was calling it :) for some wings.  She loves "chicken on a bone" as much as her Daddy and loved this place.  It sure was nice to get out for a few hours after our week.  She's back at school today and I hope everyone is back to normal because we leave for Mexico in 5 days and the girls will be spending a week with Yaya and Capn!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

I'm a day late with this post but the leprechaun showed up at our house Thursday night! He's always gone to the girls schools but I guess he knew Lilli was out with the flu. He dyed their milk and the toilet water green, wrote a note on our door and left a few treats including green silly string. The girls were outside before 7AM having a fight with that. You wouldn't know Lilli has had the flu the last few days except for the fever.  It's still right at 100 even as of this morning , The doctor says it needs to be under 99 for a full 48 hours before returning to school because she is still contagious.  So, technically, she shouldn't even go Monday now but if it's gone tomorrow she will. This all started last Sunday so she's missed a full week already and she and I are both going stir crazy.  For the first 3 days she felt pretty crummy.  But by Wednesday she had a little more energy and I started looking for crafts for her to do.  We even went to breakfa

Skating Saturday

I took the girls to a birthday party at the skating rink today. It was the first time either of them had been and they loved it! It brought back so many memories for me too. I spent countless hours skating with my friends and I know I had at least 2 parties there myself. They're already asking when we can go back and I think I may get out there with them next time.        And then when we got home Lilli's tadpole had FINALLY arrived. She waited "forever" for it and had asked me every day for weeks when it was going to be here. She named him (or her-you can't tell until it's grown) Bayou. Between the dogs, the hamster and the frog, I hope she finally feels like she has enough animals to care for. Matt says the frog doesn't know it, but he should be very happy to have been sent to a little girl that's going to love him. Instead of a little boy that will let him jump down the garbage disposal (like he did ;)

Another Trip Around the Sun

35 today? When did that happen? I still feel like it was yesterday that me and Matt met at 20, but our 7 and almost 4 year olds, and the fact that we will be celebrating 12 years of marriage this year says otherwise.  It's been a good day. I woke up to coffee made and gifts, balloons and cards from Matt and the girls. I went to the office for a little bit, did a little Birthday shopping and had a long lunch with one of my best friends.    I picked up Lilli and went for a couple mile walk with my girls. Lilli told me more about her day than she ever has on that walk so that may become our afternoon ritual.   Then Matt came home and cooked "Daddy burgers" and we all cuddled up to watch Moana together    The perfect ending to a birthday to me! And tomorrow the babysitter comes for our birthday date night. That makes everyone happy too! They love to play with Raegan as much as we love for her to come!

Officer Craig

Or Officer Allison and she tells most people to call her. I'm so happy for my sister! She had a rough (we'll leave it at that) year last year but she's really turned it around. She got a job with Baton Rouge animal control in December and got officially commissioned last week.        (I've been teasing her about her sexy uniform ;)  Her first solo call was to rescue some goats that had wandered away and ended up on someone else's porch. She's also rescued a cat from about a 30 foot utility pole (how did it get up there?!) and had to handle aggressive dogs. Plus rescued and released countless opossums from neighborhoods. She's gotten a wide range of experiences in such a short time and is loving it. The only thing they don't do is alligators. There's a separate department for that. :) I'm very proud of how far she's come and we are all thrilled she's found a job she loves with room to move up. Love you Lala! And we're proud of you.

Race for the Cure 2017

Image
Another great weekend for the books. I can't believe that was our 7th annual Race for the Cure. The crowd has gotten smaller over the years but we still had a good turnout and raised close to $1000 for the Komen foundation. We also had a nice Friday night party at Dad and Janet's that includes some stories and prayers in memory of my Mom and others we have lost. Even though she didn't have breast cancer, we have always said that "cancer is cancer" and if we can help others battle their disease, that's the tribute we want to do in Mom's name. We may switch it up next year and do the American Heart Association walk since that's hitting even more close to home between Matt and my Nana. Whatever we decide, I think we will always continue to do something in her memory. Saturday morning was beautiful and the perfect day for our walk. It's always leisurely, it took us 1:09 to walk 3.2 miles :) but we love having the chance to visit while we do it too.
