Country Social Distancing

Image
Moving up to the little cabin at the camp was the best decision we could have made right now and we are super thankful for Yaya and Capn for letting it happen. We we’re happy at our house and had no complaints but there is much more to do here and no worries about coming in contact with anyone else. The President has extended the guidelines for staying home until April 30th (and I’m not getting my hopes up for that day either because too many people still don’t take it seriously) so there will be no more school this year. We are expecting an official announcement this week but even if they allow kids to go back a week or two our girls won’t be.  So Mama is doing the best she can and we may not be doing too much but they are doing some work each day. I told them even here we can’t act like it’s an extended vacation. Although recess looks WAY different than it did in our little backyard.  We spend a lot of time together but we are finding things to do on our own.  Lilli LOVES fishing and

Moving Day!

No, not to the new house, although that’s coming in about a month! But to the cabin at the deer camp. We put our house on the market a week ago and had no showings scheduled the first few days. On Wednesday we got a call scheduling one for Saturday so we decided to go ahead and move up here. With a global pandemic going on we really didn’t want to go home to a house people had touched. Friday Matt took the first load of food and all the “extra” stuff. Kid toys and art supplies, extra towels... We filled it up! That afternoon we got another call with only an hour notice for another showing. We did the mad rush to clean up and before I let anyone in the house after I bleached every surface, light switch and door knob. My anxiety over that was through the roof and made me very thankful I didn’t have to do it for every showing.  So this morning we all (including Bella, Sammy and Gypsy) loaded up to go. (The guinea pigs are staying with a neighbor the next few weeks) Sammy isn’t too sure bu

What Day Is It??

Well we’re on Day 7 of serious quarantine. We were being very careful for a full week before that but still had to go into a few stores and come in contact with a few people as we worked to get the house on the market. The last seven days have been no one in, no one out, and even groceries being delivered. Boxes are opened outside and anything that can live in the garage for a few days before it comes in, does. Probably overkill but definitely can’t hurt until we know a little more. The kids are doing ok. In fact I’ve even caught them playing together a few times without being forced. 😉 We’re starting to stick to our schedule and getting in 2-2.5 hours of school work a day. The three of us are all exercising together every morning and there’s a lot of art projects going on. Daddy has even helped with a few We went to a drive-in church at Asbury on Sunday. No one came in contact with each other but it was pretty nice to just see people and get in the car for a little bit. It was moving

Officially On the Market

Well even in this crazy world life still goes on. Our house went on the market today and I’m am preparing to say goodbye to Brown St.  I have no idea how long it will take but it’s only been on the market a few hours and according to Zillow is the #1 viewed home in the neighborhood that’s been looked at over 200 times and shared to several favorites too. So that’s promising but I don’t know how many people are looking when we are supposed to be “social distancing.” We are prepared to go to the camp for a few days if people do want to look this weekend so that we can keep our distance too. I definitely have mixed emotions. I realized the other day that I’ve lived in this house longer than any other house my whole life. 13 years- it’s a long time and so many memories made.  But of course that will fade and turn in to just excitement over the new house as it gets closer.  We have looked on and off for YEARS and we finally found one that checked every box on our wish list. A remote master,

What a crazy time we are living in. This is a journal of our lives and I hope my kids read it one day so I have to write about something so historical that it will no doubt be written about in the history books. Covid-19- coronavirus- something most Americans had never heard of until a month ago and something no one in the world had heard of before last December. I’m not going to go into all of the details about how it began or the timeline but I will tell you how it is affecting us now. It’s a virus that the experts are saying is  3-4X more contagious than the flu. That’s because of how long the incubation period is and how long you can be contagious without showing symptoms. It’s also especially deadly for people with pre-existing conditions and older people. The flu has a death rate of 0.2% and this is killing about 2% of the people is affects. Most young, healthy people seem to handle it just fine and thank God it doesn’t seem to really affect kids at all. But if the same number of

Welcome to the World

It may be a crazy world right now (I’ll get in to that more in a future post) but we had some serious joy today too. Shanon and Alex welcomed Lucas to the world! It sounds like it will be at least a month until we can meet him but I’m in love already. I have texted with them some and family is doing well. So exciting to have a new “cousin” in the family. ❤️😊 Congratulations Mathis family! We love you all!!

I Had A Birthday

Image
Matt and I spent a very relaxing weekend in Hot Springs doing a whole lot of nothing and it’s just what I was hoping for! We got there about 3:30 Friday afternoon and sat around the lake until we got hungry for Mexican and margaritas. Then Saturday we had the same kind of lazy morning until we left for a massage and facial at 11:00. It was one of the best ones either of us have ever had. Then we got back and did some more reading by the lake before we went to dinner at a waterfront restaurant. A quiet, stress free, no plans weekend was just what we needed. We originally planned to be on a plane to Mexico for the week right now but changed our minds last minute. We booked this for a quick getaway for some alone time instead and it worked out perfectly. The kids stayed with Josh and Haley and Bella went to the groomer. Gypsy is too young to be boarded so she got to go on her first vacation and did great! She didn’t have any accidents and learned to walk on a leash. We got up and left by

Baton Rouge Birthdays

Image
The girls checked out of school before lunch Friday so we could drive down to Baton Rouge for some early birthday celebrations. I looked at the calendar a few weeks ago and this was the only weekend we had free until Easter and I hadn’t seen Nana since Christmas (saw most everyone else in January at the deer camp) so we decided to go. It was Gypsy’s first time to travel and first time to sleep anywhere but our house since we got her. She did great on the drives. Slept the entire way down there and back.  She did pretty well adjusting. Friday was rough for her because she found Angel (the greyhound) terrifying and we were only at the house for an hour before I put her in the kennel so that we can go to dinner. She kind of snapped at the other dogs and really seem to be stressed but by Sunday morning they were sharing a bed. The dinner Friday night was for my Papa’s (what would have been) 94th birthday. They go to his favorite Mexican restaurant every year and this is the first time I’ve
