Deer Hunter

Image
Matt took Lilli on her first deer hunt yesterday evening.  They didn't go until about 4:30 because he thought that would be plenty long enough for her to have to be still and quiet.  She had a great time even though she was a little nervous about all of the "bad" (wolf) spiders in the blind.  She drew in her sketch book and he talked about hunting tips to her.  They saw one deer that was too far away to shoot.  But then, right as it was getting dark, they saw another that he got! She said it was loud but she loved being there.  I love that her first hunt was a success.  Uncle Josh had a successful evening too and they all cleaned them together before dinner.  I think we have a hunter!

DixieMaze Field Trip

Image
Friday was Apollo's first grade field trip to DixieMaze Farm and I got to go! I loved being able to chaperone Lilli and 3 of her classmates.  Most of her "best friends" also had their parents there so she got to spend some time getting to know kids she doesn't normally play with too.  We did pretty much everything the farm had to offer except we ran out of time to actually do the corn maze. The girls all had fun and we were all exhausted by the time it was time to go because we had been there for 4 hours.  Lilli got to ride home with me so before we left we got lost in the corn maze just the 2 of us.   And KatieJane didn't get to go this time but don't feel too bad for her.  She got picked up by Yaya before school and got to go play and eat breakfast at McDonald's.   And then Hailey, Case and Lane picked her up from school and she got to play at Hay Hay's house all afternoon until we got there. She wasn't upset that she mi

Asbury Trunk or Treat

We are going to go up to the camp with Matt this weekend and missing the Halloween party at our church, so I took the girls to Asbury's trunk or treat on Sunday night.  As much as I love our church, we have more friends at Asbury that we see outside of church so it was especially fun! Katie was so excited to see Hallie because they showed up in the same costume.   We spent most of our time with Tiffany, Aubrey and Olivia  but it was also fun to run in to Sophie and Sadie.  And also Sunshine and Sutton.  Plus a girl from Lilli's class, Layla. (her Mom is the other room Mom) It was the place to be Sunday night! :)   On top of the "trunk or treating" (where they each got half a bucket a candy a week before Halloween!) There was face painting A hay ride Lots of games!   And a costume contest She didn't win but it was still a lot of fun! I love all of these holiday season with our girls. :)

Rock Around the Clock!

Apollo's first grade classes celebrated the 50th day of school with 50's Day.  It was too warm to keep it on all day but Lilli was probably the only kid there with a sweater really from the 1950s.  Her Yaya let her borrow the one she wore when she went to a 1950s party and she and Cap'n won a dance contest! Very cool.   All of the room Moms got invited to help for the day so of course I went.  It was the first time I was able to be at a school function all day and Lilli loved that I was there.    She was stuck to my side at first but then joined the fun with her friends. There were hula hoops and jump ropes. A sock hop.   Bubble gum blowing contest. (she came in 2nd)   We also watched Sleeping Beauty, had a limbo contest, learned about toys and TV shows from the 50s, had burgers in the classroom "diner" and the room Moms served coke floats during recess.  It was a lot of fun and I was happy to be there and get to know s

Our Little Pumpkins

Ever since Lilli was 1 year old, we've been taking pictures at the Asbury Pumpkin Patch each October.  I love seeing them come up on my Timehop app to see how they've changed.  This year we got some very cute ones! But I guess I say that every year. :)   I always love the group shots but we missed Austin and Josey this year.  Austin is playing baseball so they weren't able to make it while the pumpkin patch is going on.  I know it's going to get harder and harder as they get older but I hope we can keep up this tradition as long as we can. Sweet Sisters!   They happily smiled for the pictures but once that was over, it was time to do what they really wanted to do. Play!   And I realized I never posted about Lilli's big accomplishment last week.  I'm not surprised, but she got Straight A's on her first real report card. I couldn't be more proud!

Houston Weekend

Image
It's become a tradition to visit Shanon and Alex around this time of year and it's always so nice to get to have a weekend with some of our best friends. We got there Friday afternoon and Chris and Carissa met us at their house to spend the afternoon on their way through town.  I hadn't seen them in 2 years so it was fun to catch up and meet their 9 month old, Claire.  The kids had fun playing together and it was so good to see them, even if it could only be for a few hours.   Saturday was very low key. Shanon was up at 6:30 lighting the smoker and cooked ALL day.  Starting at lunch time he had something coming off every few hours.  The weather was nice so we sat outside most of the day but never got out of our lounging clothes.   It was exactly the kind of day we needed because, even though it was so great to be there and see them, our visit wasn't all fun.  We left their house Sunday to check in to a hotel near Houston Methodist hospital so that Matt co

DixieMaze Farm

We have a tradition of going to the corn maze each year right as fall starts.  After church today we drove to Belcher and did just that.  We always start by playing in the corn.  Lilli and I got in but Katie said there "was no way she was getting (her) beautiful dress all dirty."  She did take the picture though.   What a change from this mess when we went last year;   She might not have liked that part but there was plenty she loved.  The cow train:   And the horseback rides were her favorite. And the big slide was lots of fun   We picked a flower bouquet   And of course walked through the corn maze   But Lilli's favorite part by far was the barn swing.  She was unsure about trying it at first but decided to try it right before we left. She ended up jumping off the platform 4 times.  Not to be outdone, Katie got on too.  She didn't jump off the platform but they swung her really high.  It didn't last long, she was holding
