First Fall Weekend

Image
The first day of fall was Wednesday and that just so happened to be the day of our first real cold front. The last few day we’ve been waking up to temps in the 50s with highs in the 70s and low 80s. Katie and I have been taking full advantage and doing some of our school outside.  We had a great school week and also had some Mom and Me time and got pedicures together on Thursday. She had been asking to go to Parents Night Out at gymnastics on Friday night because she had friends going, but I had been telling her no because I had no plans and didn’t want to have to keep myself from falling asleep as I waited to go get her. 😉 I changed my mind when I decided to take Lillian to a movie to get some one on one time with her too. It was the first time I’d ever taken her to do anything (outside of being at someone’s house) on a weekend night. She and I had a good time and Katie had a blast playing laser tag, doing gymnastics and eating pizza with gymnastics friends. We were out until after 1

Straight out of Quarantine

When Lilli went back to school, I knew it was only a matter of time before she was quarantined, had Covid or both. 5 weeks into school, I got the call that she was exposed to a positive case on the bus, and she would have to come home to quarantine. This was last Thursday and apparently the exposure had been on Monday. (I guess the kid had gone home and didn’t go to the doc for a few days thinking it was some other sickness and had just gotten the results back.) The guidelines (right now- this is different than they were when we went to parent night before school) is that anyone within 3 feet of them has to quarantine. You are out for a minimum of eight days. You can go back on the eighth day with a negative test result on day six or after. If you decide not to test, you are out for 14 days. And this is for quarantine without symptoms. With symptoms, you are required to test, and a positive test means you are out for an additional 10 days from that point.  So… for 2 1/2 days we were al

Chef Katie

Katie asked me the other day if I would start teaching her how to cook some real foods (all she knew before was easy mac and pb&j) so I started coming up with a list. We started with grilled cheese and she immediately wanted to do everything herself. I never touched anything and only supervised.  After that success she took off and couldn’t get enough! We made pizza roll ups for lunch one day.  She and I went to see a movie yesterday morning after we got done with school. I always try to have Fridays scheduled to where we only have around 2 hours of work so that we can do a field trip too and that’s what she picked this week. Then that evening she made pizza for us while Lillian and Matt were at the camp. We met Matt in Plain Dealing this morning so Lillian could come home while he stayed to work on the tractor today. It was such a beautiful day that we all hung out in the backyard for several hours and the girls took Bella for a walk. And then we had Katie’s spaghetti for dinner.

Illuminate Co-Op

When we decided that Katie would homeschool again this year, one of the main things I wanted to be sure to include was some sort of regular group event. She loves being here but I want her to know some new kids and see people other than me and the animals during the day. (She’s the best cat owner though because she’s been doing her school on the floor since Sammy has claimed her desk chair during school hours. I got a 2nd chair to fix that for this week though.🤣)  We joined Illuminate Co-Op which is the most active homeschool group in our area. They meet once a week for a class and also get together for field trips. Most years (they are undecided on this one still due to Covid) they have things like grandparents day, Daddy/Daughter dance, Christmas party… all the things she’s missing by not being in full day school. For high school they even have prom and graduation.  Today was the first day of class and it was fun! She was very shy which surprised me, but I bet she’s the loudest one

Man, it’s been almost 2 weeks since I’ve posted and I didn’t realize. I guess we haven’t had too much going on. We were supposed to be in Baton Rouge last weekend going to Piper’s birthday party at a water park.  But Hurricane Ida got in the way so we decided to stay home. Katie had a sleepover with Landry instead but we mostly had a quiet weekend.  The school week was normal. Katie and I had school of course. She’s loving her team development gymnastics class and really improving on some skills. And Lillian had her first middle school social event when she went out to eat with some friends for a birthday dinner.  The “field trip Friday” for me and Katie was a quick trip to Andy’s after picking up groceries for Matt to take to the camp. When Lillian started school she said the only thing she’d miss was the random daytime treats we would get so I promised to always bring one home for her to have after school ❤️ But the main highlight of the last 2 weeks has DEFINITELY been the weekend h
