Whirlwind Weekend

We put some miles on the car last weekend for all sorts of big events. It started Friday when we left early to be in Baton Rouge for 1:00 for the presentation of the Kathy Craig Scholarship. This year’s recipient is going to be a Special Ed teacher (inspired by her brother) and she’s ending high school with 6 classroom hours thanks to a dual enrollment program through the magnet program. My Mom would be honored to help her and so proud of what the magnet program down there has become. She was the first director and it has definitely grown since then

On Saturday, me, Matt, Lillian and Lizard drove down to New Orleans to watch Kathleen compete in the Southern Regional Gymnastics Meet.

She did AMAZING and finished her season as Regional All Around Champion, plus gold on bars and beam. She landed wrong during vault and, after a quick trip to medical for an ankle wrap, got those golds with a sprained ankle! We are so proud of her for pushing through and going out and doing what she loves

That ankle is still bruised and swollen 4 days later so I know it hurt and we are taking this week (at least) off to rest.

From there, we split up at our cars we had left in Gonzalez, and Matt went home to be with the babies

While the girls and I drove to Houston. It was Koy‘s last tournament with his travel ball team and Lillian really wanted to go hang out with him and friends. His sister is one of her best friends and we’ve supported this team all year and hated to miss the last one. We got there about 9 PM and their second game of the day was just starting. They won that! And then we checked into the hotel about 11 PM and stayed up until almost 2 AM. I’m too old for that! Lol. But luckily they had played so well that their first game of Sunday was not until 4:00. We had all day to hang out, go to the mall, eat lunch, take a nap… before going to the field. It happened to be about eight minutes from Rachel and Anson so they came and met us for the game.

This was the only picture I took the whole time we were there, but it was a fun 24 hours in Houston and that game was a nailbiter. They did not make it to the championship, and were all disappointed, but I didn’t hate that we were leaving town at 7:00 instead of waiting for another game to start either. 😬 we got home about 11 PM and, after almost 3 full days of being gone, we had some excited puppies. We had put some miles and hours in the car over the weekend, but it was worth it!
